Daniel Richard Parker, 89, Cañon City died Dec. 19, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Parker was born Dec. 2, 1915, in Allardt, Tenn., to Edward and Minta (Norman) Parker.

He served as a combat engineer during World War II, participating in the D-Day invasion of Europe, landing with the first waves on the beach at Normandy. Following his separation from the Army in 1945, he made his home in Cañon City near his mother’ family.

He was employed in the production of fire-clay, brick and ceramic products with the Harbinson Walker Corporation and later with Colorado Refractories.

He was an avid sportsman, and loved the Colorado outdoors and spent most of his free time either fishing, hunting or camping. He was Protestant by faith.

He is survived by a sister, Ova Conatser, Jamestown, Tenn.; a half sister, Shirley (Ray) Zallar, Littleton; two half brothers, William (Jean) Yelton and Norman Yelton, Cañon City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Albert S. Yelton; older brother, Harold Parker, and a younger half-brother, Raymond Yelton.

Visitation from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Charles Anthony Funeral Home in Florence. Burial with Honors will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Hospice Fremont County.
