Paracca family (Italian immigrants late 19thC, shoreditch)
I am researching the Box family. My great grandfather William Henry Box married Sarah Paracca in the fist part of the 20th C in Shoreditch, E London (UK). Her father was Andreas and was born in Italy. As the name is so rare I am interested if anyone has connections to this family? Also any tips on tracing date of immigration and from where? There are no known relatives today in UK - anyone have a corruption of the surname?

Hi Robert how exciting to recieve your message.
Since I posted the message I have collected a lot more info about the Paracca's. Andrea is also my distant relation. I have discovered that my parents actually have the Paracca family bible (which lists all the childrens names - including Marea) and it also shows that his father was called Desiderio. Andrea Cossanto Paracca was himself was born in 1833 (Italy) and died in 1900, and married Eliza Ann Cooper. They had 12 children - Marea (your relation) is the eldest but another sister, Elizabeth Sarah, married William Box - my great grandfather. I am happy to supply you with more dates if you need them. I have also discovered some letters which are postmarked Gravedona, Italy which appears to be on the banks of Lake Como, so this is the nearest I have got to discovering where the family is from. Any more info you have would be most welcome!

Hi Robert, I'm afriad that I dont know an exact date of birth for her and also havent been able to track down Theresa's husband. I do have the place and date of Eliza'd death however - she died 17th June 1916 and is buried at Chingford Mount Cemetry. Also have found out that George Cooper Paracca was killed in the trenches of WW1 and is buried in military cemetary in Aaras, France - have plot number and more info on this if you needed it. My Grandad wrote some notes of the Paraccas but did not call Marea by her full name - they had various 'pet names'. Was she ever known as 'Duck'? I have a sister identifed as this who apparently used to visit my aunt, Sarah, who in grandad's words 'use to visit Sarah every freiday, one friday got to the stop and collapsed and died'. Ring any bells? Helen
