My father's family is Raymond Cullen Boucher, from Illinois, and in searching the message board, I see your name is Paquette and you are from Quebec.

I am also doing research on my mother's family that originated in Quebec. My great-great grandmother was Margaret Paquet, born in Metis, Quebec in about 1838. She married Hilaire Splude and they had only three children, that I can name. My great-grandmother was Mary Splude, born April 1,1854 in Miguasha, Quebec. They also had a son named Francis, and another daughter, Millicent.

I know the spelling of Paquet is different from your name, but so many times the spelling will change through the years. If you have any possible information that might be of help to me I would greatly appreciate it. I have met a block wall with the history of the family. I do know that they later went to Dalhousie, N.B., where Margaret Paquet and Mary Splude Duff both died.

I have a treasured letter that was either dictated or written by Margaret Paquet in May of 1918. She had just called for the priest and I feel at that time she must have been very ill. I think she may have died soon after.

Mary Splude Duff, Margaret Paquet's daughter, died on Oct. 9, 1927 in Dalhousie.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Well, i'm affraid i do not have any information regarding your ancestors in my documentation so far.
Bu t what i can tell you is this: As i go back in time, my last name before Paquette was Paquet, and before that Pasquet, and the first arrivant in North America was Etienne Pasquier.

Alot of Paquet, Pasquet, Pasquier and Paquette can also be found under "LaVallee"...

You also might have to look for Marguerite Paquet, wich is a more probable french name for your great great grand-mother...

Good luck!

Paquette

It was suggested to me yesterday that my g-g-grandmother was maybe,Marguerite, instead of Margaret, like I thought. That would be the correct French name. She was born about 1838 and married Hilaire Splude. Thanks for your thoughts. Rayene

I was very interested in this information albeit from more than a decade ago, as I think we share the same great great grandmothe Margaret Paquet Splude. I am Louisa Splude's great dranddaughter.

I have only recently begun to research my ancestry. My mother never knew her paternal grandmother because Louisa Splude died very young in 1907 in a house fire. She had left home during the '80's to go work in Montreal as a domestic (1891 Census) and married John MacKinnon (arrived from Scotland in 1880) in 1894 with whom she had 3 children, my grandfather being the youngest. In the 1901 Census a "Mary" Splude is living with them...sister or niece? Her sister Millicent (b: abt 1874) moved to Montreal after the fire to help raise Louisa's young children as is recorded in the 1911 Census. I would love to learn more about them.

None of the records clearly state Louisa Splude's parentage. Was Louise really Hilaire (Larry) Splude and Marguerite Paquet's daughter because the 1901 Census records Louisa's origin and mother tongue as German which was not the case for Mary (or is it really Margaret?) also at the same address in the 1901 Census nor Millicent (part of the MacKinnon household on the 1911 Census) who was recorded as French Canadian. " Aunt Maggie" or "Aunt Millie" never told my mother about this.

One of the elder sisters Mary Margaret (b: 1854) married a William Duff and their daughter (b: 1880 abt) Mary Margaret Duff married a John James Boyes referred to in my previous message.

Another piece of the puzzle is a Margaret Splude daughter of Lawrence and Margaret Splude who marries John Louis Bazinet in 1917 and the same Margaret Splude Bazinet dies in 1930, a funeral attended and witnessed by David Angle, my mother's uncle.

Other info of interest is seeing in the 1921 Census that Millicent (46) is back at home with her sister Mary (68) and brother Larry (61) living with mother Margaret Paquet (85). Father is not recorded in this Census.

Look forward to reading your thoughts on this
