Re: Antonio Papa family in Chicago
Hello Anna ! I have asked my dad about your grandfather and he does not remember him . He vaguely remembers a shoemaker with the same name who had a sister Leonilda when he was a child from many years ago but its difficult because he has been living here in the UK for over 45 years , and they were distant relatives . His dad had only 1 brother by the name of Antonio Papa, and his wife was called Ermila which is what I mentioned before . and they had about 10 children ! who all moved to USA . 1 of them had drowned unfortunately . Hope to keep in touch linda

Re: Antonio Papa family in Chicago
I am also research Papa from Senerchia, Italy. I have a Federico Papa, b. Senerchia in 1842. He married Rosaria Cozzi and had about 8 children. Federico's parents were Antonino Papa and Paola Trimarco. I do not have dates of birth on them at this time. Federico and Rosaria's first son was named Antonio, b. about 1875 in Senerchia. Federico and son Antonio came to the U.S. (Chicago) with a Matteo Mazzone about 1882. About 1887, Rosaria came over with other children. Papa from Senerchia are probably related! Would love to hear from you.

Re: Antonio Papa family in Chicago
We are in New Jersey, USA. My Grandfather was Antonio Papa born in 1899 in Avelino, Italy. His Father was Giovanni born 1868. Think there is any connection. Thanks

Re: Antonio Papa family in Chicago
My grandfather, Gerardo Papa originally from Senerchia, Avelino, Italy was married to Maria Caruso and they immigrated to the USA and settled in Chicago, Illinois in 1904. They had six children Jimmy, Carmela, Alexander (Leezon), Lucille, Johnny, and Josephine. Jimmy and Carmela were born in Senerchia, and the rest were born in Chicago. All are deceased. It has been told to me that my grandfother Gerardo sponsored many family members, Papas and others from Senerchia, who immigrated to the United States through Chicago. He and Maria were members of Our Lady of Pompei Catholic Church in Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood. Our sur-name was changed to Pope during my father's generation, although I have never seen any legal documentation. My father was Alexander, also known as Lee or Leezon to his close friends and relatives. I never knew my grandfather but I fondly remember my grandmother.
