hello,
I saw an old post where you mentioned Charles Pope (original name Carlengo Papa before coming thru at Ellis Island where they changed his name to Charles Pope. (I will ask my brother for the correct original first name spelling). He was a brick layer/stone mason master and started his company Pope Construction in Hartford, CT until around 1950. Charles Pope was my grandfather. my father, Donald Pope and his brother
Salvatore Pope started their own Pope Construction company and built commercial construction in the Harford county area into the late 1970's.
Let me know if you have any questions.
best regards,
Darryl Pope

I'm travelling abroad at the moment so I don't have that much information on hand. but here is some background: Charlie Pope came to america when he was a teen, they claim all he had with him was a salami and 10 cents in his pocket. He married Josephina (her maiden name was Zito) when she was about 15 years old. They had 4 daughters and 3 sons. Salvatore, Donald, Albert, josephina, violet, anna, helen. All deceased. Charlie was an amazing mason, a real master and a very nice man. His father came to Connecicut for a while and worked with Charlie on various bulding/masonry projects but he went back to Italy. Charlie and his relatives were from Sessa Aurunca, Italy. A mountain town in southern italy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sessa_Aurunca
My brother knows much more about Pope history and I can send you more information. what is your email address?
