My late husband, Ricardo "Ricky" Paolantonio's grandfather was from Calitri; Nicola Paolantonio. He settled in Flatbush area of Brooklyn and ran a bar/grill/speakeasy. He had 3 sons; Mario,Vito, Antonio ( at least), Antonio was my husband's dad. Rick died in June 1996. Of our 5 children, one is currently serving in Iraq, Timothy .. he is in US Army and daughter Kimberly also serving with US Army is currently stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA.

Antonio's widow, Catherine lives in south Florida, her son James passed away a year ago this August and daughter DiAnn lives in Pomona, California.

I have information on your husband's ancestors if you're interested. Nicola Paolantonio's grandfather, Francesco, was a brother of my great-great-great-great-grandmother, Lucia Maria Paolantonio.

I am very sorry to hear about your husband Ricky and also about James. I knew them when they were little guys in New York even before moving to California. The reason being, is that Diann was my high school sweetheart. She went to my prom and I went to hers in California. I can't add much to your quest to find out more about the family, but I do know that their mom was really funny and loved to laugh alot. Their dad just liked to sit and listen to Italian opera. He was the main reason I joined the Navy back then. I still have a few stories.
Just like you wondering about family, I was wondering about my old love, hoping she is well and life is still interesting and fun. Also wondering if she has kids, any big (or little) accomplishments in her life, and of course, if she ever had time to think of me over the years. I'd be interested to hear from her if you are in contact with her. I'm in the Dallas TX area (but still miss the coast)now. Another direct email address to use is "allen1113@cebridge.net". Thank you, and again I am sorry for your loss.

Catherine is now in a nursing home in Coral Springs, FL battling both old age and depression. Yes, she was quite funny but had more than one emotional breakdown when the big layoffs of the late 1960s and early 1970s occurred. Antonio was laid off from aerospace and was without work for 18 months.

Diann, I never had the opportunity to meet. When Rick and I were married, he informed me that she lived in Pomona, California. Years later he told me the truth, that she did indeed live in Pomona, California but that she developed severe paranoid schizophrenia and biopolar disease. She would often take walks ending up 45 miles away in Downtown Los Angeles. I talked to her a few times but he would never let me meet her or let the kids meet her.

After Tony died, Catherine tried to have diann living in the house again with weekly visits from a therapist but it was disasterous and she had to be returned to the home where she lived.

Thank you for the smile of memory. I remarried in 2005 after being widowed in 1996. My husband is also Italian and his relatives were from a village not too far from Calitri.
