Karen,
I read your message posted and the replies to Jason Paolantonio. I am married to Michael Paolantino. Michael is your uncle. Michael's brother was Leon. Leon and Michael's dad, John, changed the name from Paolantonio. John's family was from Brooklyn, NY. John had a brother that passed away, George. He also had a sister that just passed away a few years back, Pauline. Pauline's married name was Maurino. I have a copy of John's birth certificate. I also contacted the Social Security Administration and have a copy of his request for a Soc. Sec. Number. This lists his mother and father's name and where they were born. Please reply back!!!
Oh, Michael and I have a 3 year old daughter named Gianna (we call her Gia for short). Gianna is the feminine of Gianni. Gianni is an Italian variation of John. She was named after her grandfather. By the way, Leon had 3 other children with his second wife.

Karen,
I do remember Lillian saying that Leon's heritage was Irish, I think. I do believe that she had met Leon's biological mother. Leon was originally a foster child and I think he was with Catholic Charities, here in Chicago. Lillian and John became his foster parents and then adopted him. From what I know of foster care, I think it's common for the biological parents to still be in the picture. Lillian should know more. Any time I try to ask her for details, she's very guarded with the information. Then, of course, she'll ramble about other things that are irrelevant (she's almost 80 years old).
By the way, I've met Leon's 2nd wife, Carol at Leon's funeral. I can give you her address, if you'd like. After living with Leon for so many years, she probably has more information about him than anyone.
The Paolantino (Paolantonio) family name is from Sicily, from the information I can get. Everyone seems to say the Palermo area. My knowledge of Italy is only what I read in the paper or books or see on TV or the movies. My husband, Michael has dark hair and brown eyes. He has an ever so slight olive tint to his skin, so that he tans well. He's not particularly dark-skinned though. Luckily, Gia inherited that slight tint to her skin, and of course, the dark eyes and hair. I've got blue eyes and brown hair.
There are some other things that I could tell you about Leon, but it would be more prudent not to discuss it on the Internet. Why don't you email me personally and we can trade phone numbers. csoper@uscellular.com

I am the grand daughter of both Mario and Iona Paolantonio. Daughter to their adopted daughter, Lorie Paolantonio. My grandmother was not the type to share any of her past with anyone after her love of her life had past on only 7 years after the adopting my mother. She did what she had to do by being the major provider for my mom and I. She never re-married, never had any interest in any other man for the rest of her living days. Honestly, she left us with no idea of what was in her past or even yet in my grandfather's past. All I've ever been told by mom and grandmother was he had pasted from some sort of cancer. I am 36 and seriously couldn't feel so lost and alone.

Oh. One other thing I remember was... when my grandmother had pasted at 69 yes old. My mother had found her safety deposit box. In it was the typical kind of things that ppl felt the need to hide, but in the bottom was her adoption papers. My mother had never seen these nor was she ever mad a where of the fact. She took ALL of her secrets to her watery grave just off NewPort Beach, California somewhere. My mom was 31yrs old. Anyhow. Later on in yrs she was told by another family member that her birth mom had already passed long before my grandmother did. This is seriously ironic they told her that her birth moms name was "Karen", but honestly I think you & I are just cousins. With the adoption concept put aside. I just thought I was really ironic. Wouldn't you agree? Lol.
