I am searching for vital records on the following members of the Panagos family : Ernestasios Panagos, possibly from Milwaukee, born 1920's ?, served in the U>S> Air Force in 1950's and 1960's or his son, Gregory Scott Panagos, born in Marquette Michigan Oct 24, 1959 or brother Marcus Panagos born in Colorado in 1956 or 57 ?

I used to live in Miulewaukee. I never met these people, but do know that this Panagos Family still has people in Wisconsin. I would check the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or Sts Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Chruch in Milwaukee. They would have the baptismal records and that would help you find the parents and alos someone who might know the whereabouts of these Panagos.
I too am doing a geneology of this family. I know that there are Panagos' in NYC and Chicago that I am related to. Can you tell me where in Grteece this family Panagos is from? Is the original Greek name PANAGOPOULOS? I would appreciate your input.
THANKS

I forgot to tell you, that the name Ernestasios is an Americanization of the Greek Anastasios. You may get further information if you used the Greek name when searching through old Church records. I know there was a Panagos Family in Milwaukee area, at least in the late 80's. They could be the folks you are looking for.
Another possibility is to go on line and see if there is a Greek Orthodox Church in Marquette, MI. Possibly the family remained Greek Orthodox, in which case there would be baptismal records there. Good Luck.

As I have a distant cousin who changed his name to Panagos, Panagopoulos may indeed be the original name. My Parents immigrated to Canada in the late 1950's, so any family ties would have to go back to Greece last century or earlier. My family's (and my cousin Panagos')comes from a village in west-central Greece, in the department called Phokidas. The village is called Managouli (a Turkish name) and is 10 km from the town of Nafpaktos on the north shore of the Gulf of Corinth. The story goes that the village was settled by a "clan" of Panagopoulai (Greek plural)after the War of Independence (1830's). There are still a few families in Managouli named Panagopoulos. I know of a family named Panagopoulos from a nearby village not knowingly related to us. The name probably originated in the Peloponese (all -poulos names do). The name is not uncommon. On the other hand, in your case, Panagos may be the original name. I found this website through an article in the Athens News website and was curious. Hope this helps. Good luck in your search.

Re: Panagos family members
my granfather came to the united states on march 1, 1921 at the age of 25. he was born nov. 9, 1895 i was told in sparta or from sparta greece. I was told he came to peoria, ill. first then had been a resident of providence R.I. for 55 years when he died on january 27,1976. I was told he came thru ellis isl. from patras, greece. I was told he had 3 male cousins already in peoria, ill. and 3 or 4 sisters in greece. When i looked up ellis isl. passenger lists i found a george panagopoulos who was from maleniti, greece and arrived in the usa at the age of 25 in 1921. I believe this is the original spelling of my name and not panagos. I am in my early 40's and would like to find surviving family and get more history on my greek roots. He was married to maria buccoliero who was born on 12/11/16 in providence R.I. and she passed away on 8/18/2000. She also told me that panagopoulos was the original name, but her daughter said it was never shortened. Thank you and please respond.

My grandfather was George Peter Panagos. He was born on 11/9/1895 in sparta greece. He came to usa on 3/1/21 by way of ellis island and first went to peoria and/or chicago, his wife said chicago, his daughter said peoria, ill., then went to providence R.I. where he resided till his death on 1/27/76. I was told he had 3 male cousins in either the peoria or chicago location, and had like 3 or 4 sisters in greece. My understanding is his family had a home in so. greece and no. greece. He married maria buccoliero who was born in providence R.I. who was born on 12/11/16, and died on 8/18/2000. They had 3 children carl, barbara, and george2 (my father). My grandma told me our original name was panagopoulos, and that he was a postman in greece. His daughter says original name is panagos. I looked up ellis island passenger lists and there was a george panagopoulos who arrived in usa in march, 1921., same time as my grandfather and same age from maleniti, greece. I believe this is him. I am in my early 40's, and i would like to find family in the usa, as well as learn more about my greek roots, and also change name back to original spelling. Thank you and respond asap.

I have a newspaper article from "The Record" dated March 29, 1945 about Sgt. George Panagos. This newspaper was from Paulsboro, N.J. that was owned by my uncle. Are you any relation?

Re: Panagos family members
I am researching Panagos family geneology for my son, William (b .1992), who is the son of Gregory Panagos (b.1959) , who is the son of Ernie Panagos (b. 1920's?)mentioned in my note. Some of the info you shared with me sounds like it might connect to Ernie, like maybe your family is related to one of his siblings. Here is Greg's email address; you can contact him and ask him to ask his dad, Ernie. Greg Panagos < GPanagos@nobleenergyinc.com
