Re: Arminda Panabaker from Wisconsin
Darla, thanks for your response. I am doing family history research on the Pflueger and Puchner families and their ancestors. Ralph Puchner is my uncle and was married my father's sister.I spent a few Christmas vacations in Edgar. They were experiences to remember. I am extremely interested in what information you may have or know how to access.Could we discuss further in a more convenient forum. Please contact me at rnpflueger@aol.com. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks

Re: Arminda Panabaker from Wisconsin
I am researching the family of my great grandmother Alma Lucy Chilson, 1864-1935. In her obituary from the Stevens Point Journal, it says she was survived by her sister, Mrs. Anna Panabaker of Edgar. I found an Anna Panabaker married to John W. Panabaker. Her children, including Ovid, were also mentioned in other family obituaries. So Anna's maiden name was not Chilson? It also says they had a brother William Chilson who lived in Oconto, WI. Do you know anything about their relation? Do you know anything about their parents? From census data from 1870 & 1880 Portage County it looks like their parents were Alex & Maria Chilson. I'm trying to link back further.

Re: Arminda Panabaker from Wisconsin
Yes, I have found more information and put it in my public file on Ancestry.com. I found the birth certificate for William Chilson in Stevens Point, WI. He was the half brother of Anna Panabaker. Anna signed off on proving his birth in Dec 1935, saying she attended the birth, he was the 3rd child born to the mother, and lists herself as older sister. She lists their mother as Mary Van Gorder, born in Pennsylvania, and that Mary was a housewife, and 33 yrs old at William's birth on Sept 13, 1869. The father of William was Alexander Chilson and he was a painter. Alexander Chilson & Mary Van Gorder did not marry until after Anna Panabaker was born, so Alexander Chilson is not her father. I don't know who is. Mary Van Gorder died sometime between 1870 & 1880, but I have not found her death record or grave. Not long after 1880, I found newspaper information that Alexander was being taken care of by the city of Stevens Point, living in the city's poor house. Son William was put in foster care. I assume Alexander died there, as I cannot find any record of his death or burial.
I have spoken with William Chilson's youngest son, Francis Chilson, who is still alive and lives near Milwaukee. He said his father never spoke of his family and he knew nothing about his 2 aunts (Anna Panabaker & Alma Whitney).
I cannot prove it without a doubt, but from my research of census records, it appears that Mary Van Gorder was born abt 1836 near Nelson, Tioga County, PA. She was the daughter of Ira Van Gorder (1798-pre 1870) & Lucy Drew (1799-?)of Steuben County, NY & Tioga County, PA. It appears a group of their family traveled to Stevens Point, WI. I found Lucy Van Gorder living there in 1870, as were sons Isaac and Samuel Vangorder.
