Hi,
My ancestors John Talbert/Talbot Chambers and Jane McCormick had a daughter Jane born about 1804 in CAN who had it appears from the 1870 Van Buren Co., MI, Census a son named Americus Palmerton born in 1851 in NY. Jane Chambers married Thomas Palmerton who was born about 1800 in NY and died in 1864 in Van Buren Co., MI.
I thought that since the names Americus and Palmerton were so rare in our history, I'd look for another Americus Palmerton, whom I found in Barry Co., MI, also in 1870. This Americus Palmerton was born in 1853 in MI.
There must be a close connection between these two Palmerton families possibly one or two generations back in time!
Next door to Jerome [1815-]and Roxy Palmerton [the parents of Americus, born in 1853] in the 1860 MI Census, I believe it was, was a Charles Palmerton [1816-], so it seems Charles Palmerton and Jerome were also closely related.
Family trees at Ancestry.com have Charles Palmerton with a son, as in the census, named Sylvanus Palmerton, and Anestry.com also has the father of Charles named Sylvanua Palmerton.
My guess was that Thomas Palmerton was the son of Thomas Palmerton, the son of William Palmerton and Rebecca Ellsworth. I think this assumed Thomas Palmerton, Sr., is seen in the Montgomery, Ulster [later Orange] Co, NY, in the midst of a group of Chambers to whom I think I am related by my ancestor John T. Chambers.
Does anyone have information on these Palmerton's??
Mark
