You have probably uncovered much more information since this post, but I will note that my great-grandfather, Roy Leighton Palmerton (son of Lyman Palmerton) seemed to be quite close to his uncle Willard. Willard seemed to float around a bit among the brothers, so he can be found on the census listing for different families at different times.
In 1880, both he and Omer were staying with Lyman. In 1885, he was staying with Franklin. A Willard G Palmerton from Wisconsin is listed as a Civil War veteran and a pension index shows a Catherine Palmerton as his benefactor. In his devotional, my great-grandfather noted that Willard passed away on June 23rd 1889.
If you have uncovered additional information about this family, I would certainly appreciate hearing about it. I can't seem to get beyond Francis and Sallie Palmerton. Just as an interesting note, Roy and Lyman both spelled Sallie with the "ie" rather than the "y." This might also help in the search.
Blessings,
Heather
