This task is daunting, as I'm sure anyone researching this surname has felt. My grandfather actually went out of his way not to let us know the family history. What little any of us know I'll put out, and any help would be appreciated.

My grandfather was named Raymond Palmerton as well, and he was from New York. His mother was named Mary? Welch(sp?). She was adamant that it was the Irish spelling. She lived in Yonkers(died around '65 I think). Her first husband was a Fred Palmerton. She had children by a second husband, by the last name of Ray(sp?), one of which was named Ginny(Virginia) who married a man by the last name of Coots(sp?). That, in a nutshell, is about all I know. Any leads would be GREATLY appreciated.Supposedly Ginny traced the history, but if anyone had it it's gone. I'm ordering some records now, so more details are coming. Thank you for your time.
