The first member of his family I found was Moses Montrose Pallen. I have been tracing the Pallen family for sometime trying to find out the significance of this name. I'm assuming it was a family name on his mother's side of the family, but I have found very little information about her. Her name was Ziddora Pallen nee Anderson and she was married to Zalma (Solomon) Pallen.
