Richard: Good to hear from you. I know very little about the Isaacs family. I have heard that Eliza had a brother in London named George. Were they English? Was Eliza in the Anglican church? There is a mystery to me: I believe Alexander Palache was the brother of John (or Mordecai). Alexander had three daughters. Sarah married Moses Henriques. Rachel and Judith went to New York with their father and started and directed and taught in a school for the Sephardic Temple in New York. They were Hebrew scholars. All three girls went to school in London, to the Belisarios, a school for the Sephardim. They were FIRST cousins of James Palache, my great-grandfather, who also lived in New York, yet to my knowledge he NEVER mentions them. We have none of Rachel, Judith and Alexander's letters, know little about them. But clearly they were Jewish. James seems to have been brought up in the Episcopal church--did this come from his mother Eliza?

We have a few photos of Eliza and her daughters and know a bit about them, especially Sarah who married Robert Kelly and went to live in Versailles. We have a photo of Eliza's grave in Teignmouth. Her letters to James seem to have been lost. My great aunt Eliza Palache (Charles's sister) wrote that he kept every one of them, but where are they? We have many of his letters, and those of some of his children, especially Eliza and of course Charles, also Lou and Mary and Whitney, none of Robert that I know of.

Where are you? Do you have an email address? I'd like to know whatever you have about the Isaacs. I wrote, some years ago, to the Museum of the Diaspora in Tel Aviv, asking about the Palache and Isaacs families, and they answered that they had almost nothing, which seems very strange to me.

My main interest has been the California Palache family. I have some charts of Eliza and John Palache's descendents and would be glad to send them to you. I do want to know more of the earlier genealogy, but I've been frustrated, don't know Dutch or Portuguese (if it is Portuguese I need), don't like to travel (to Jamaica, for instance). I found a book about the Portuguese Jews of Jamaica and had high expectations, but the name Palache wasn't even MENTIONED in it! More frustration.

Enough for now. Best, Judith

Surnames: Kelly, Palache, Isaacs
I am studying the Kelly family and would enjoy information about Robert and his wife Sarah. Actually any information about the Palache family from Mordecai down through Robert Kelly and then Edmond Kelly would be of interest to me. Any help?
Thanks,
David
