Richard, I hope you are still at this address. I have recently found through an 1843 U.S. Supreme Court case that I am descended from Solomon Isaacs who died in NY of yellow fever in 1793. His family tree starting with Solomon and Rebecca Isaacs who were in New York by the early 1690s is on p. 124 of First American Jewish Families by Malcolm Stern. You can find FAJF with all the family trees at http://198.30.183.7/aja/FAJF. Is this your Solomon Isaacs family? We have communicated before when I thought I was descended from Isaiah Isaacs of Richmond. It turns out that Solomon Isaacs of New York married Mary ___ and after Solomon died his widow Mary married a Jacob King in Richmond and moved there. My ancestress Sarah Isaacs who married Benjamin Jewell in Richmond in 1813 in a Jewish ceremony was the daughter of Solomon Isaacs. Please contact me if this is the same Isaacs family.

I have Palarchie/Palache connections and was confused as to the ancestry of the name. In conducting this search as to the origin of the name I came across your contribution (s). The general perception is that this is an Italian surname, still others say its Polish in origin. And in this regard have spelt their names "Polarchy". It is interesting to note research seems to indicate that this may have Portugese connections. My husband recalls, as a child being taught Italian by his father. Perhaps DNA may be the next step for the willing few who are still curious.

My name is David Aiken. My mother who is alive and well in her eighties-Dahlia Palache born-1932 in Jamaica, she resides in(USA.)Her brothers- Kenneth E Palache(once lived in England, now resises in(USA)and Clifford Palache(brother)who died had a different mother. She says her father was Cecil John Palache (died) at 77yrs old. His sisters'-Martha Palache and Dahlia Palache(died). They were all born in Jamaica. Mom says she did not know her father very well. She doesnt know too much about her history either except the story about someone not maiking it back to the island after he took his family abroad. I can only assume that that would be John Palache same ones connected to the family in California.

I believe Palache is an old Sephardic Jewish name, probably Portuguese. Samuel and Joseph Palache went from being Caribbean pirates to founding Amsterdam's Jewish Community. I strongly recommend that you read "Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean" by Edward Kritzler for a very in-depth and interesting study on the Sephardim who left Spain and Portugal, ending up in South America, the Caribbean, Mexico and of course the United States...traveling back and forth to England and the Netherlands, and of course Jamaica. The book has a lot of the history of the Jews in Jamaica.

I think you will find it interesting to read, and may learn something about your Palache family name.

I am not descended from that family, that I'm aware of, but do stem from the Samuel, Jacobs and Mendoza families who left Spain and Portugal around the time of the Inquisition.
