Hi casey! sorry it took me so long to check your messages here. Have you had more discoveries? Your dad says you have done a lot of Pal research! I did just about nothing because I don't know how! I'll keep watching and good luck!

Casey: I am another cousin. Bertha Mosko Pal came first to Ellis Island and then lived for a while in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I have at home here some information given me by my father (Julius Pal) about Bertha and Julius. Will try to dig it up in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Karen,

I'm new to this so I have no idea where to start. I noticed you had family in Bridgeport at one time. I was born there and my father's family lives there. My grand-father is Istvan Pal. Any tips to help me start would be appreciated.

Hi Andrea, I have an Istvan Pal in my family tree. He was born in 1895 in Detk, Heves Co, Hungary. There are alot of "Pal"'s from that area. The Istvan Pal I have would be my great-grandfathers brother. My great-grandfather was Alajos Pal. He was born to Janos and Juliana Pal.

I unfortunately, do not have any links that I am aware of to the East Coast US. My hungarian relatives have all settled in the Midwest.

The birth date for my Istvan is 8-1-1895. He had three brothers, Alajos,Janos#1 and Janos #2. He also had four sisters, Emma, Iren Erzsebet, Terezia, and Maria.

Please let me know if we may be from the same family lines.

Thanks,
John

Hi John, thank you for the information. I'm sure that I can use it. I don't know of any relatives beyond my grand-father. I know that he had one brother that still lives or lived in Hungary. I've never heard any mention of other relatives. I'm very curious to know more about my ancestors. I have very little contact with my grand-father and cannot ask any questions. Any help as to where to start would be appreciated. I have a very small family and I would love to know of more.

Hi again Andrea,

I need to make one correction to my previous entry for Istvan Pal. He was born to Janos and Juliana Erki in Detk, Heves Megye, Hungary. You mentioned that you are looking for information on where to start. I, fortunately, have a great aunt that is still living. I was able to confirm information I found on the LDS Family History Database at http://www.familysearch.org/ with her.

She actually made a trip back to Hungary, to the village of Detk, with her son, my godfather, in 1993.

You need to find a link to your grandfather, in Bridgeport. I did notice a few Social Security Death index entries for "Pal" from the Bridgeport CT. area. Do you know if your grandfather was born in the United States? If so, you can probably obtain a copy of a birth certificate through that cities records of vital statistics.

Do you have the ability to speak with your parents to find information regarding Istvan's wife. If there was a marriage, you should be able to find parents names on a marriage record.

You can email me direct at john.pall@wcom.com if I can be of any help.

Good luck with your search,
John

Andrea: Thank your for the reply. My grandfather Julius (Gyula) Pal and his sister Julia came to Bridgeport from Hungary but neither stayed there, instead he worked in the coal mines in PA for a time and they both came to Northeastern Ohio to live. If we could be related it would have to be back in the Old Country. Unfortunately, I have been unable to learn the names of Julius Pal's parents. Karen Pal Burdick

I am so happy to hear from you !! Your information was instantly familiar to me. My Uncle Alexander Pal married Elizabeth Kutrich, I remember she was from Wisconsin and wondered how they met. Julius Pal was my father, he passed away in January, 2000. Somewhere I have Aunt Liz's obituary and would like to send it to you. Elizabeth and Alexander had 5 children, three are living. Many grandchildren and some great-grandchildren. Uncle Alex is still living,he is about 88, I would have to look it up. Been in Florida where I could not receive email, got back Friday, so I am sorry for the delay. Would really love to hear from you. Karen Pal Burdick.
