DEATH CALLS ANOTHER OLD PAL. RESIDENT
Herman D. Pahlman Spent Over 80 years in Vicinity of Palatine

Another old resident has passed on. Herman D. Pahlman, residing at the corner of Slade and Benton streets [sic] died Tuesday afternoon, after a short illness. It was not until his death that many people realized that here was a man who had lived in Palatine and vicinity over three quarters of a century. Deceased was a man of quite disposition, but had many warm friends during the years that he was in business. Of late he was seldom away from his home, but he kept up an interest in local affairs. Mr. Pahlman and his life’s companion had that pleasant experience of growing old together, having lived together nearly 55 years.

Herman D. Pahlman was born at Chicago on December 29, 1941, his parents having immigrated to America and located in that locality. Shortly thereafter they took from the Government, a grant of land located in Lake county [sic] just north of Palatine and there the deceased spent his youth and early manhood. He was confirmed in the Evangelical church.

He was married to Anna Rantze on July 4, 1874, and moved to Palatine, operating with his brother a planing [sic] mill located at the present corner of Bothwell and Johnson streets. He subsequently followed the carpenter trade and was employed in the old planing [sic] and flax mill on West Chicago avenue [sic]. For a few years, he conducted a general merchandise store at Palatine.

He was next to the oldest of a family of eleven children, all of whom have passed on before him excepting his oldest brother, H. H. Pahlman of Biscay, Minnesota, his youngest brother, E. A. Pahlman of Barrington, Illinois; and a sister, Mrs. Emma Kleinsmith of Palatine. He was the father of Mrs. Charles F. Rennack and Henry H. Pahlman, both of Palatine, a third child having died in infancy.

His death was due to old age and he peacefully slept away on Tuesday afternoon, June 18, 1929, at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 20 days.

Those left to mourn his loss are his beloved wife, daughter, son, two brothers, one sister, two granddaughters, and a great grandchild, besides many relatives and a large circle of friends.

The funeral is held this afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. Stafford officiating.
