I'm looking for information on the Hermann or Henry PAHLMAN (b. 15 Apr 1812) family in Lake County, Illinois.

Wife: Catherina (b. 1 Oct 1818); Children: Henry (b. ca. 1839), Hannon (b. ca. 1841), Garrett (b. ca. 1843), Mary (b. ca. 1845), Louisa (b. ca. 1848), William (b. 11 Jun 1850) - my ggrandfather, John (b. ca. 1853), Emma (b. ca. 1857), August E. (b. ca. 1859), Ernst August (b. ca. 1861).

Any help would be appreciated.

Chris;

My wife is descended from a Pahlman family that lived in Palatine, IL.

The earliest ancestor traced so far is John H Pahlman, born 1810 in Prussia, died 1874 in Palatine. These Pahlmans are mostly buried in Hillside Cemetery in Palatine.

It can get a little confusing, as there was another John Pahlman in the same area at the same time (I think he was John D Pahlman).

The line to my wife is as follows:
John H Pahlman married 1839 Mary A Rantze (1819-1906)
Herman D Pahlman (1841-1929) married 1874 Anna Rantzen (1852-1929)
Emma Caroline Pahlman (1875-1946) married 1895 Charles Fred Rennack (1874-1936)
Gladys Anna Rennack (1897-1944) married 1919 Paul Henry Pohlman (1894-1936)
Charlotte Anne Pohlman (1935-1990) married Carl Arthur Buehler (1936-living)
Capricia Anne Buehler (1963-living) married 1990 Bryan Roy Murphy (1959-living)

Those last two are my wife and me.

Does any of this seem to fit your line? I'd really like to compare notes, especially since I may have picked up some of the "other" Pahlmans back in the mid-1800's.

Bryan -

Thanks for the response. I have a John C. PAHLMAN born ca. 1853 to Hermann PAHLMAN and his wife Catharina (Catherina), probably in Ela Township, Lake Co, Illinois. Hermann and Catharina list their birthplaces as Hannover in the 1860 and 1870 U.S. Censuses. Hannover became part of Prussia in the late 1800's.

Hermann's mother was also named Catharina and/or Mary (she apparently lived with him until her death). I have no information on his siblings.

An on-line book excerpt states that Hermann claim jumped prior to 1850 before the area was opened to homesteading.

The Hannon PAHLMAN in this listing is also known as Herman PAHLMAN (see obit and 50th wedding anniversary announcement posted 18 April 2006). Hannon is his name in the 1850 & 1860 U.S. census found in Ela, Lake, Illinois. Church records from Long grove as well as other records list him as Herman.

Hello:

I currently live in the old Hermann Pahlman house on Long Grove Road. If your grandfather John was born in 1853, in all likelihood, he was born in the house I live in as the local historian dates it back prior to 1850.

There is much current controversy over the cemetery off of Middleton and Andover Roads in Kildeer with the 4 graves: Hermann and Catherina Pahlman and the add'l 2 unmarked graves. The lot is currently for sale. I walked up there today...I can not imagine these graves being moved for the benefit of yet another million dollar home. The plots should remain undisturbed. Have you seen the recent article in the Chicago Tribune on the issue?

Do you have any information whatsoever on the 2 unidentified plots of the 4? Did any of the 10 children die in infancy or childhood? And, is Hermann Pahlman's mother, if she lived with him until her death, possibly buried upon the site?

Although I can't offer you much ancestry information, visitors to our home are always welcome should you wish to see firsthand the workmanship of your great-grandparents.

Michelle - Thanks for the heads up. I was not aware of the article in the Chicago Tribune or the possible endangerment of the cemetery. I will email you directly. Thanks again.
