dear joseph,
i will ask my relatives. could salvatore and filamena been brother and sister or could she have been salvatore's mother? do you have any dates of birth etc. or can trace from her children's births. when did she come to america and where settled. all i know now is salvatore's children were born 1910.
do you have any relatives with surnames vassallo, d'argenio, salamone, minasi, or briganti?
avellino was a small farming town and i found some good info and a few pictures on a web site. type italy.com then capania area, avellino and you will find interesting information. my grandfather(achille vassallo) would tell me stories of monte vergine. a sanctuary/church.
i will keep searching.
please write back.

To Paula: I am son of Carmine Pagano, born 1896 in Montemarano, Italy - about ten miles from Avellino. He had a step-sister and step-brother with names of Filamena and Salvatore. Both came to US and Salvatore supposedly returned to Italy near end of WWII, and was killed near Rome. I don't think these are your relatives, but I did want to check in with you. Avellino is a thriving mid-size city now - I was there in 1998. Ciao

to angelo,
thank you for your response. i will check with my relatives about the possibility of a half brother carmine pagano. do ou have the names of carmine's parents and step parents. i would be curious if my great uncle tony would recognize the names as possibly being his aunt and uncle.

to angelo:
i am not really sure of salvator'e birthplace as being avellino, just that they were from the area of avellino. so i will check with my relatives if montemarano, italy really could have been the birth place. it was my grandfather achille vassallo that i know for sure whose family was from avellino.
