Elek,
My grandfather was born in NY City in 1896.Moved to central NY and had my father
(Lloyd),step-uncle(Stanley),aunt(Ruth).All
have passed away.Grandfather George had at
least one brother(Jonh)and may be others
((Auguste,William,Maria:all born in NYC at
turn of the century).I have one sister(Mary).
There are some cousins in Syracuse of Great
Uncle John (also named John). Found "PAFKA"
on an imigration boat list (SS Gellert- 1889)
which docked in NYC that may be related to my
grandfather George Pafka (their names were
Joh and Josefa Pafka, age-56, from Austria).
I found a Frank Pafka in Pennsylvania(1800's)
Anthony Pafka in Michigan(1895-1984),Joseph
Pafka in Cook County IL (not sure if he died
in 1880),Sgephen Pafka in Toledo (31 in 1910)
with his wife Anna,son-Sgeve,son-Charles,and
daughter-Sophia(one son born in austria and
others born in Ohio..imigrated from Austria).
I've looked through some of the internet aids
to find other Pafka's but you are the only one to pop up. I did receive a call from my
father's half brother's(stanley) daughter
Susan (Mass.,USA). Her father left her and mother when little and she never knew him. My
father looked for his brother stan for years
before finding his address in PA. When he and
my mom went to she him, they found he had passed away just a few months prior. Bummer.
If you have any luck in PAFKA finding, feel
free to send it this way. I have to believe
that we have shared relations. PAFKA is not
common here in the states

Dear Michael John,
Thanks for writting me !
The name of Pafka is very uncommon everywhere, not just in the USA. My grandfather and my father spent a lot of time searching relatives in the telephone books of great european cities without any result !
In the database of the whole telephone numbers from Romania there are just the names of my Family, and one another, living in a small village.
Now it seems that internet lets me have more succes. I found you, and also two musicians in the Czech Republic.
As my Grandfather remembers, his anchestors came from the south of the Czech Republic (Moravia) in the XIX Century. I forgott to mention that I am of hungarian nationality, and the reason that I live in Romania is the rearanging of national frontiers after World War I. As you live on the East Coast, and your grandfather comes from Austria, it seems pretty sure that the Pafka name has its origin in the former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy! I keep searching ....

more information to E Pafka

Here is some more information. There is a family named Albert and Rosie Cejka from
Zbraslov,Bohemia. Albert was a native of
Vesely Moravia. He was the son of a Frank
Cejka and ANTONIA PAFKA-Cejka. This lends
credibility to the locational origins of your
grandfather and his rememberance of places.
It looks like I'll need a world map and a bunch of push pins to start marking locations of departure for the USA for any
Pafkas I find. mike

Hi Elek,
I just found this on the web- My father is
(was) Stanley Pafka- Michael Pafka's
uncle. I don't know very much about my father- He left when I was 3 or 4- I am now 52- I did find his death certificate and visited the family he lived with in Mass. I live in Connecticut. I hope to be meeting my first cousins- Michael and Mary- next week in Rochester- January 12th.

Please email me- I just recieved 4 medals that my father had in the army.

Thanks Elek

Suzy

I am 50% of the young Pafka`s in Romania (I am 25). The other 50% is my cousin Szilard (28), but he already lives in Budapest (hungary). I live in Oradea near the border to hungary and I am studiing architecture in Timisoara. In february I shall finish my stuies and become the degree. Next year maybe I will submit for a master degree in the US. Than will be no more young Pafka in Romania. The others are my parents, my uncle, and another Family I know little about, just as far related with, maybe as with you ! It is strange to find my Family name after searching for it so much in Europe finally in the USA. so I'm very glad to hear about you...
