Caspar Paffrath was born in Flittard, near Cologne, Germany in 1825. He left Flittard approx. 1855 without leaving any traces.
On 10.04.1860 in St.Louis, Missouri, took place a marriage between Caspar Paffrath and Barbara Schneider. Is this the same person? Does anybody know more personal data about this Caspar Paffrath from St.Louis?

Do you know if Caspar had a brother or other relation named Herman Paffrath? I think Herman is the Godfather to my Father, Herman Rohrbach, St. Louis, MO.

I'm not quite sure if this will get reposted to, but hey it's worth a shot. My Granfather's name was Dale Thomas Paffrath Sr. His parents were Herman and Mina Paffrath. Who immagratted over from Germany. I think they lived in Missouri for a little bit but don't qoute me on that. Herman died in the 1970-80's i'm not sure. But i'm trying to find out some information on my genelogy, maybe we have helped each other maybe not.But Herman and Mina (my Great Grandparents) are buried in Three Lakes cemetary In Wisconsin.

I am still looking for more information about the connection between the Rohrbachs and the Paffraths. I was able to find parts of my family in Germany, so I haven't looked into this for a few years. I will get my notes together and post any information I have as soon as I can.

Hi,
Caspar was the lone descendant from my family that migrated to the states. He settled and farmed in the New Ulm Minnesota area. Your ancestor more than likely was from Paffrath, Germany a very small village east of Köln Germany.
Thomas Schmitz who started this thread many years ago turned out to be a relative of mine although very distant. His mother and I are on the same level of the family tree and are related six generations back.
He was interested in Caspar because he was the only family member who left that area in Germany (Flittard) and no one knew the reason. Flittard is only a few miles from Paffrath and anyone who came from Paffrath was known as Caspar from “Paffrath” and so on. So there came there last name.
Your search should continue there or might end there. All you have to do is connect the space between.
Your ancestors first name is fairly common and shows up in my family tree but he never left Germany.
Good luck.

It's strange, because my father remembers that my grandfather came in from Canada in Montana, but he wasn't sure exactly of the state - it could have been Minnesota.

Also, the town of Paffrath is close to where I found some of my relatives in an area close to Remscheid. My grandfather also told my dad that he grew up close to the Holland boarder, so it all fits.

well good luck in your search. also i have my family tree in a file. I tried to attach it but the site would not accept it. If you are interested in it give me your email and i will send it to you. who knows the might be a connection some where. it would be a slim chance though because my cousin in flittard said it became very difficult to find records in the city of paffrath.....because of common names with no real last names.
