Classification: Query
Surnames: Lindsay Lindsey Lanterman Glass Newell Makemson Applegate
David Lindsay lived in Fayette County ca 1772 to 1787. (Present day Connellsville TWP.) Zachariah Connell purchased his property (probably held by ‘Tomahawk’ rights) in 1787 and subsequently built the town site of Connellsville upon it. David was Lieutenant in James Torrance Third Battalion, Fourth Company and later Lieutenant of his own Ranger Company. David held positions as “Supervisor of Roads” and “Overseer of Poor” and perhaps other civic responsibilities. At least eight of his ten children were born in Fayette County but too young to marry until the Kentucky years. According to KY bible records wife’s name was ‘Rebekah’. One of the mysteries is her surname and if he married her in PA.

David removed to present day Harrison County, KY in 1787 and became part of the community where Benjamin Harrison; Thomas Moore; Jeremiah Nesbit and numerous other Westmoreland/Fayette County neighbors migrated. He died there in 1814 at age of seventy-four.

Children subsequently married into several families in Kentucky who previously resided in the vicinity of Fayette County, PA

It is unclear exactly where David came from prior to Pennsylvania, but DNA research indicates he was Scotch-Irish and other documents suggest he migrated to the USA ca 1768 via New Jersey from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Can share abundant information!
