My wife's great-grandparents, Christof Paepke/Pakpe and Cecilia Derring immigrated from Germany to Chicago about 1882. Their children Frank, Felix, Anthony, Clara, Anna and Olga were all born on the near North Side of Chicago in St. Alphonsus parish. I would be happy to exchange infromation with anyone researching this family.

Re: Paepke/Papke in Chicago
What a coincidence! I was born in Chicago on the near north side as was my father, Walter Paepcke b. 1896 d. 1960. But I've never heard any of the names you list. Do you know anything about the ancestors of your wife's great-grand parents? My father's father Hermann Paepcke d. in Chicago in 1922, but I never heard that any of his family immigrated. They all came from Teterow, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. Hermann was one of 9 children, but as far as I know they all stayed in Germany.

Re: Paepke/Papke in Chicago
Hi Paula,
My wife's great grandfather was from Mechlenburg-Schwerin but I don't know where. What religion did your Paepcke ancestors practice?

Re: Paepke/Papke in Chicago
My ancestors/relatives were protestants, Lutherans in Germany except for one g-grandmother, Emilie Schneider Wagner whose daughter, Paula, married a Paepcke. That family was originally Catholic.

Re: Paepke/Papke in Chicago
The Paepkes, at least in Chicago were practicing Catholics. Don't know about Germany or whether Christoph converted when he married Cecila Deering.

Re: Paepke/Papke in Chicago
Do you know the addresses where they lived? My father's family lived on Pearson Str., then on Rush Str., and I was brought up on Lake Shore Drive.

Re: Paepke/Papke in Chicago
Among other places they lived on Southport and Wrightwood.

Re: Paepke/Papke in Chicago
My grandfather and all his 8 siblings were protestants. i believe there were quite a lot of Paepckes in Mecklenburg-Schwerin mostly in Rostock, Teterow and Goldenberg.
