John Padden b. 1838 Ireland (Where????)
I'm looking for information re: John Padden b. 1838 in Ireland.
John married Catherine Hughes in 1858 in Leeds, England. They had five children, Richard b. 1860 (my ggrandfather), Patrick b. about 1867, Mary b. about 1868, Kate b. about 1871 and Jane b. about 1874. All of the children were born in the UK.
The family settled in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
Does anyone know where in Ireland John Padden originated and who his parents were????
Thank You, Richard Padden Clark

Re: John Padden b. 1838 Ireland (Where????)
i am interested in your posting way back in april of this year, regarding John Padden of Leeds/Ireland. my g grandfather James Padden born about 1841 came to live and work in Wakefield, Yorkshire. The census quotes he was born in Leitrim. as you are aware or not aware! Leeds is just a few miles away from Wakefield. he was married to a Mary Kaveney. i have yet to find out of any siblings. are you aware please if your John Padden had any brothers? although the census quotes Co Leitrim i remember my mother saying the Padens came from Co Mayo, but as yet i have no proof. if you feel there could be a connection i would be most grateful to hear from you. Re: John Padden b. 1838 Ireland (Where????)
Eileen,
I was very please to see your posting.
It’s been awhile and I had just about given up hope of anyone replying.
I do believe that my great-great grandfather did have siblings. I’ll have to dig into the information I was able to gather for the details.
Does the information you have identify James’ parents?
I find it interesting that James was born in Leitrim. I had always assumed the family was from Mayo. I have no reason for that other than I think I saw somewhere that the Paddens were most numerous in Mayo.
I am pressed for time right now, but hope to get back to you in a day or so.
Who knows, we may be related.
I live in Massachusetts. You don’t happen to live around the corner do you??
It was GREAT to hear from you.

Re: John Padden b. 1838 Ireland (Where????)
Eileen,
I do find mention of a James Padden born about 1839 in Andover, Allegany, County, New York. This James would be the son of Patrick Padden and Catherine. Both Patrick and Catherine were born about 1810. I have no idea as to Catherine’s maiden name.
If this is the James that you are looking, his siblings were: Patrick, born about 1832 in Ireland Edward, born about 1833 in Ireland Hurbert, born Nov. 1931 in Ireland John, born about 1838 in Ireland Elizabeth, born about 1856, Andover, NY George Henry, born about 1856, Andover, NY
I must say that I have pretty much dismissed this family as having anything to do with the John Padden that was my great-great grandfather. I have information that John, who was born in Mayo, moved to England when he was six and that he was married in Leeds and had started a family before he came to the United States. I suppose his parents could have immigrated and started a second family in New York, but I don’t think it likely. Is it possible that the James you are looking for might have found left New York and settled in Yorkshire??
I hope this is of some help.

Re: John Padden b. 1838 Ireland (Where????)
Thanks for the repy but I am not sure if it is any link. All I know is my grt grt grandfather John Padden born county Mayo married mary (don't know maiden name) came to wolverhampton around 1850-60 and had about 6 children one was called James but he was born w-ton around 1858. I just don't know how to find out any more about the Irish link as I can't view any census's in Ireland. Thanks for contacting me and I will keep your info in mind because it could be a link although Padden seems to be very common in ireland. When I was young there was only my dad as Padden in the w-ton phone book! Lesley
