Matilda Paddock, b abt 1790, married David Benjamin in Vernon, Sussex Co., NJ. James Paddock and his family lived in Vernon at the same time. Is James her father? At least one of James' children moved to Coshocton Co., OH at the same time as Matilda and David Benjamin. Does anyone know of a connection?

Boy - any additional information you might have will certainly be helpful with this one. Can't find a Charles A Paddock in Oregon ever. I found a James G, buried in Ames Cemetery in Sweet Home, Linn County 1881-1968. Also there is Susan L Putnam Paddock 1890-1976.

here is an artical i found on james nephew about his uncle charles and their history in oakridge its from the news review

Name: Ron Paddock, 74, of Oakridge

Claim to fame: Mayor of Oakridge from 1970 to 1978 and former vice president of the League of Oregon cities. In a small, conservative town, Paddock was well-known for his liberal viewpoints. His uncle, James Paddock, was the town's first mayor, and his father, Charles "Papa" Paddock, was the city's first recorder. "It's the most interesting thing I've done in my life," he says of his years as mayor. "If you're not giving service to your community, you're not paying your way."

History: Paddock's uncle and father led the charge to build the city's first water system during the Depression. The city, incorporated in 1933, floated a bond issue and built the system on Salmon Creek Falls. An Oakridge native, Paddock and his wife, Lynette, live in the house where he grew up on Cherry Street. "I can't imagine anybody leaving Oakridge," he says. In the mid-1960s Paddock helped form a committee to annex nearby Willamette City, but residents voted against the proposal. Finally, after five elections, the annexation was approved in 1966, and the town's population doubled from 1,500 to 3,000.

Change: Paddock has seen Oakridge undergo many changes. In the late 1980s he watched local mills close when environmental laws prohibited logging in certain areas. The town's population has dwindled by about 1,000 since then, he says, adding, "It's a different world now. I don't understand this world."

A new passion: The former owner of Midway Gardens, the business his father started years ago on Highway 58, Paddock spends his days tending the garden in the back of his home. He grows lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peas, cucumbers, potatoes, carrots, spinach and beans. "This is what I like, getting down on my hands and knees," he says. His blue overalls are dirty. His hands and fingernails are dirty. He wears a straw hat to keep the sun off. And when he's done tending for the day? "Then I'll just sit here and watch it," he says.
