My great grandmother was a Paavola from Lappi T.L. Ruona,Finland.
Her name was Elsa Johanna Paavola, born in 1896, and died in 1985.
She was the 8th daughter of Kustaa Aadolph and Maria Fredrikka Paavola.

my grandmother was from kaustinen.she had 3 sisters, rauha, selma, and saima. finns used to take the name of the place they were born. the paavola home was still standing in the 1970's. probably no relation, though.

Hi Gay. My Paavola ancestors came from Kaustinen, Finland, too. Maybe we can compare notes. Mine came to the US around 1905 and settled in Wisconsin. Let me know.

Hi! My grandfather and grandmother from Kaustinen were Heikki Sanfred b.1883 and Silla Maria Paavola b.1881. Heikki came over on the Saxonia in 1906 and Silla traveled with a young daughter on the Lusitania in 1907. I found my grandmother on the Ellis Island site. My grandfather had a sister Hilda Maria born 1885. Heikki's father Joseph Leander Johansson Winttur died in 1885. His wife, Anna Liisa Abrahamsdotter, remarried. Her 2nd husband's name was Alexander Eriksson Paavola, which is how I ended up with the Paavola name. I know Anna Liisa and Alex also had 3 children - 2 boys and a girl. I suspect you might have descended from them. I'm don't believe there were a lot of Paavolas in the Kaustinen area. The Paavola name comes back into my tree in the 1700s again and goes back to the 1500s. Heikki Sanfred and Silla Maria settled in Iron Belt, WI and died there in the 50s and 60s. My father still lives in the area. Hope to hear back from you! Kevin
