I am looking for any info on the two brothers and their families. They arrived in Clinton, Iowa 1880 from Prussia. Carl was married to Mathilda and August married Emilie Selle. Any information would be appreciated. I have information to share with those interested.

Jerry-

Just stumbled across this site and saw your post.

The August Paasch you speak of MIGHT be a relative of mine (great grandfather?). If so, he settled his family in the Hood River, Oregon area and established a large apple orchard. The main home/orchard is still is still owned and operated by a Paasch family, a descendent of August’s several generations down. I believe the man’s name is David. The home is on Paasch Road.

August Paasch’s apple label is for sale on-line at the Columbia Gorge Center (www.cgc-direct.com) on tee shirts and such.

Here is a jpeg of the label: <http://www.cgc-direct.com/labels/paasch1.jpg>;

Again, don’t know if that is the right guy, but maybe.

Jerry and Brian,

If you haven't seen it yet, you might want to take a peek at Jeffrey Bryant's Genealogy of Hood River County. You can start at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bryajw/HoodRiver/in... , then search for Paasch to see a listing of Paasch people. This might help Jerry determine if you're talking about the same August Paasch.

Brian, I grew up on Fir Mountain Rd. in the Pine Grove area of Hood River and am related by marriage. My grandfather's sister, Grace Anne Perry, married August's son Hugo.

Thx Beth.

I did try that link. First try hung my computer. Second try went nowhere, eventually timed out. (And I'm on broadband!)

I'm not really into this stuff, was just a passing curiosity. (Had done a Yahoo search for "paasch" looking for something else entirely, found a "paasch msg board" and thought, "what is THAT???") I'm embarrassed to admit I don't even know my (paasch) grandfather's name! He died (of cancer?) when my father was a young child so obviously I never knew him. My (paasch) grandmother's name was something like Kirstena, though I've very likely butchered the spelling.

My father (John E. Paasch) was one of six children. Again, I'm bad at this stuff, two of his brothers were Bob and Allen and one sister was June. The others’ names I don’t recall at the moment. It is Allen's son, David, who I believe now owns the land and home.

I THINK that August was the next generation back, so my great grandfather.

Anyway, my parents left Oregon soon after they married. I'm a California native. However my own family left CA in 2000 and are now Hoosiers. Interestingly, when I came to the board to read your post, I clicked on something (have no idea what) and ended up on a Vigo County, Indiana board. Is that where you are? We are in Hendricks county.

I do like our family apple label. We’ve two very old and tired tee shirts with the label. My kids still were them as night shirts but they’re too threadbare to be worn for anything else. Someday I want to order new ones for the whole family (we’ve four kids).

Brian -- I'm sorry the Hood River Genealogy site timed out on you because it's such a wealth of information, and Jeffrey updates it regularly with great new data.

After reading what you wrote about your part of the Paasch family, we can claim another relationship. Your father's sister June married my father's first cousin, Samuel Frank Gerking, and I have many pleasant memories of time spent at their home. Sam died in 1981; June is now living in eastern Oregon with her daughter (at least the last I heard). This inspired me to do a bit more digging and in the now-out-of-print book "Pine Grove Memories in the Hood River Valley" found your father's family (June, Bill, Bob, John, Lois, Allen, and Betty), the children of William "Bill" Paasch, who in turn was the son of August Fredrick Paasch. It is said that August and his family came from Germany to Sabin, Minnesota, in 1887, where they stayed for a year before moving to Hood River. See what happens when you indulge a "passing curiosity?"<g>

Best wishes,
Beth

I don't know why you ended up on the Vigo Co., IN board, but coincidentally my great-grandfather Perry came from there!

Well, that certainly shook the dust off of some long dormant brain cells! I too enjoyed time at Uncle Sam and Aunt June's home. Until the lot across the street was built up, they had a great view of the Columbia. And I also recall a huge veggie and flower garden.

As to my father's brothers and sisters, I do not recognize the name "Lois" but all the rest re-fired long unused brain cells. But of the next generation, I know nothing of "Bill" Paasch except what I wrote before.

Your account of August Paasch also found ancient memory. The only other thing I further recall being told was that the Paasch family move from Minnesota was done as a group, with two other families. Those three families, I'm told, were the first (Anglo) settlers of the Hood River valley.

Hello -

Did your August Paasch have a brother William who may have stayed in Sabin, Minnesota? My great, great uncle, Otto Wright married Adela Paasch, who was the daughter of William and Dora. They immigrated from Germany and settled in Sabin, Minnesota. It may be that August immigrated later and stayed with them before continuing on to Oregon.

That sounds vaguely familiar: Germany to Minnesota to Oregon. But I'm not a good family historian so that is only a vague recollection of stories told to me when I was a child. I have no memory of any siblings of August, doesn't mean he didn't have siblings, I just have no memory of being told of any.

Sorry, not very helpful!

I should have read the rest of the Paasch msg board before I did that last post. Yes, from other posts on this board, even in this same thread, it does appear that they traveled the same path. Seems reasonable to guess they were related.

Have you added to the information of your Paasch family since your Nov 2003 posting? I am interested in a William Paasch to immigrated from Germany via Denmark. At least one daughter was born in Copenhagen. This daughter Ingeberg married and lived in Goodhue Co., MN before moving to Washington state. Her father William is listed as living with her family in the 1900 census. Thanks.
