What was your grandfather's name? Did you grandfather immigrate from Croatia? Was he the first generation to have the vineyard? What year was he born.
My Grandfather, Matt, first immigrated in 1906 to Calumet, MI; then, moved to Engadine around 1914.

Oh, Okay, it must be the same Ozanich family because my dad mentioned the vineyard!
My grandfather, Matt, immigrated from Pucak (actually went to Ogulin before immigrating to travel to America with another Ozanich) in 1906 to Calumet, MI; then, around 1914 (during the mining strikes) moved to Engadine, MI. He was born in 1884.
What about your grandfather? Was he the first generation owner of the vineyard? When was he born? Very intersting:)

I'm not quite sure when my grandfather came over to the US, but I know it was in the early 1900's. He was the first generation that owned the vineyard. I know that most of the grapes have been pulled out now, and the property is no longer in the family. My uncle inherited it when my grandfather passed away, and when my uncle passed away, it went to a male cousin. He sold the property.

So very interesting! My grandfather had just a few concord grapes planted on the south side of his chicken coop at the old farmhouse, which is where I got the idea to plant some on the southside of my home--they do wonderfully there!
What was your grandfather's name? Have you tried to locate him on ellisisland.org?

Hello, My Grandfathers first name was Andrew. I have searched for him, but have never found him on ellisisland.org. I'm not quite sure when they came over. I might try 1906. This is so interesting for me too. I never knew we had any connection with the northern Michigan Ozaniches. I have found some information about them in Croatia. I found that interesting. I would like to learn more about our Croatian ancestors.

Have you tried spelling Ozanic instead of Ozanich on the search? My grandfather's name was spelled, "Mato Ozanic" on the Ship's Manifest.
