May be Maggie Oxspring born 1905 in Shire Green, a hamlet a bit north of Sheffield in West Riding, Yorkshire. Daughter of Wilfred Henry Oxspring Sr. (1873- 1948) and Annie [maiden name not found yet] 1879 - ?. Wilfred born Shire Green, son of Henry Oxspring (1837 - 1897) and Elizabeth Hulley (1844 - 1911). Elizabeth's family available online, google up Elizabeth Hully Shire Green. Henry Oxspring born Shire Green, son of Thomas Oxspring (1813-1875) and probably Elizabeth Beard (1815 - 1894).
Thomas Oxspring born 1813 Shire Green, son of Samuel Oxspring (1786-1851) and Mary Parkin (1784 - 1851). Samuel born Shire Green, son George Oxpring born 1753 in Ecclesfield Parish n. of Sheffield, it includes Shire Green and of Mary Holmes, also born Ecclesfield Parish. George and Mary married 1774 Aug8 in nearby Rotherham, West Riding of Yorkshire.
More detail at Ancestry.com in the Deeley-Pardoe-Ibbotson-Woodhouse tree; still under construction for the Oxsprings.
Census records, BMD, church register & other sources listed there.

There is a second Maggie Oxpring born 1902 in the Wortley registration district, which also includes Shire Green.
I have not researched this one. The Maggie that married Francis Rigney did so in 1923 third quarter in the Sheffield registration district of Yorkshire. The other Maggie Oxspring married Arnold Hollingsworth in 1929 first quarter also in the Sheffield reg. district. Birthdates make Maggie of 1902 more likely to marry in 1923 and Maggie of 1905 to marry in 1929, but that is only statistics and not fact. Cure: get Maggie's marriage licence; minimum charge at Ancestry unfortunately is US 38 due to their air mail mailing policy; maybe you can get a lookup for free thru this board or at the Sheffield Genealogical group. The BMD index cites volume 9c page 1233 for the Oxspring=Rigney marriage, good luck!

There appear to be 2 Samuel Oxsprings around Shire Green:
Samuel born about 1786, 1841 census 55, fork maker; wife Mary 60 born Yks, + Martha 25 Emma 7, Henry 4 and Joseph 9 listed below 3 non-Oxsprings all fork makers & apprentices.
Sam & Mary in 1851 Sam 65, Mary 71 Emma 17 Samuel 25.

Samuel #2 1851 census in Shire Green is a butcher; wife Alice 55 born Pilsley, with William 3 calf dealer Hannah 28 Jane 26 dressmaker, John 23 calf dealer. Samuel & Alice 1861 census are in Pilsley Derbs. Samuel 72 Alice 65 William 41 Hannah 38 John 32.

Maybe the samuel of Mary sold forks to the butcher Samuel?

Either one could be the son of George Oxspring and Mary Holmes of Ecclesfield.

Hi Noel,

Sorry for the delay in replying. This post was on behalf of a friend. Due to my old email account closing down with very short notice and my not reregistering for responses from this list I didn't get any notification of your reply to my post.

Having spoken to the friend earlier this week about attending a FH fair next month he asked if there had ever been any response to the request I posted.

I hosted his line at (link is direct to Hannah)
http://www.inteyre.net/spalders/people/p0000007.htm#I67

I'm particularly surprised by your email as I'm the maintainer of the Eyre One Name Study site
http://www.eyrehistory.net

I've had a look on both of our lines and your Hannah Oxspring/ William Dove Eyre marriage is new to both of us.

I do have another occurrence of an Eyre Oxpring marriage but that is way way back.

I would be interested in hearing more from you on this line with a view to tying in your Eyres with a branch on EyreHistory.

Regards

Bob

OXSPRING, Wirksworth, Bolehill, Matlock, England & more

I guess I will be first to see if there are any other researchers looking for OXSPRING out there. My great grandmother was Millicent OXSPRING born 28 July 1860 in Wirksworth, England, and Chr. 12 Aug. 1866. Her father was Thomas OXSPRING born in Bolehill, England and married Hannah THOMPSON 23 June 1859 in Wirksworth. His father could be John OXSPRING. Millicent could have 3 brothers, John chr. 18 Sep. 1859. Thomas chr. 1 April 1865 and Samuel William chr. 12 Aug 1866. All in Wirksworth, England.

Millicent married John Robert Dakin 12 Feb. 1887 in Bolehill, Matlock, Derby, England.

If you have any ties to OXSRPING please post or get back to me. I also have access to information on other OXSPRINGs in this area of England if it will be of any help.

Thanks to all, Richard Driver
