Hi,
My name is Carol and I am a descendant of Thomas Oxby and Charlotte Treves (Traviss) through their daughter Elizabeth. I only just now got confirmation that they were her parents from the mariage license.
Do you know of any other siblings of Elizabeth Oxby or any information on her parents? Charlotte married Peter Dell, my great great grandfather.
Thank you.

Hi Amanda
I didn't know about William. Harvey's mother Elizabeth was born c 1817 at Kirton Holme and in 1871 she is on the census as being a charwomen living with Harvey and Elizabeth in Little Hale, her husband Thomas was dead. Harvey was my GG Grandfather and was married to Mary Ann Cox a widow whose maiden name was Porter, Mary Ann was c 10.09.1848 and m 10.07.1877 at St Andrews Church, Heckington they had 9 children and their daugher Clara was my GGrandmother.
Its really nice to get an answer from the Oxby side.

Hello Rosemary,

I have two Mary Ann's in my family tree, both on the same branch! One is the daughter of Giddings Porter and Elizabeth Cox and Giddings brother Charles, was my GG Grandfather. The other, who I think is 'your' Mary Ann, is their daughter in law, as she firstly married William Henry Porter (1845 - 1868), son of Giddings and Elizabeth and when she was widowed young, remarried Edward Cox (I think). Obviously he too died and she married again to Harvey. She didn't hang around! She had a son William Charles Porter (30/4/1868 - 1958), who was living with Giddings and Elizabeth at the time of the 1881 census. I have lots more if you are interested?

Hi Nigel
My Mary Ann was b 1848 to Giddings and Elizabeth m William Cox b 1839 in 1870, she then married Harvey Oxby in 1877. Have you got any info on Giddings parents as I have got stuck there? I have found Jane Gidding who married a Porter in Boston a couple of generations further back but its proving the illusive link!!!!!

My e mail is rosi_woods@hotmail.com and I'll be interested in any info you have.
Thanks
Rosemary

Rosemary,

I can either send you a family tree in the post, or send a more detailed E mail later when I get home? I have not got the hang of sending GEDCOM files as attachments yet! My GG Grandfather was Giddings brother Charles and their father and mother were John Porter (30/9/1781 -?) and Ann Barnatt (1787-?). Giddings grandparents were another John (?-1816) and Jane Giddings. We have some further details on them that I will send you, but I have also found alot of what I know from the IGI search on the Church of the Latter Day Saints site (Mormons). The family moved to Heckington from Boston in the early 1800's, but as there were lots of Porters already in Heckington I suspect it was sort of moving home. Have you been to the excellent Heckington site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~heckington/ ?

Hi Nigel

Thanks I had speculated about John & Ann being Giddings parents but I wasn't able to find a record of his christening to prove it, also the "Heckington" Porters complicated things..
