I have been looking for other Oxby family members in Canada or USA. My husbands grandmother was an Oxby. She was born in North Augusta Ontario and moved to North Dakota. If you have any information about Oxby's I would like the information.I can share with you what I have.

Hi

Sally (Oxby) Mclinton is almost certainly a cousin of mine. I descend from Thomas Oxby, born Brant Broughton, Lincs in 1789, and Sally descends from his brother.

Are you related to Sally?

Hi John, I don't know if you received a message I tried to send last week. I had some difficulty with this web-site, and then was unable to retrieve the message. Contacted webhost for help. My answer re am I related? I believe Sally would need to go back one more generation to know exactly. My family descended from a Thomas Oxby in the early 1700's, but from his 3rd wife, Ann Bagg. Sally's family may have descended from his 1st wife, Elizabeth Bennett. Interesting though! I am also looking for a message re a Tom Oxby marrying Harriet Flavell--they ARE part of my more recent family tree. As a matter of fact, I believe Harriet's grandson is the Keith Oxby, geneaologist in the family, living in Kinoulton, outside of Nottingham! TTFN Linda P. S. Please write back to acknowledge receipt of this message.

Yes, there are some interested Oxbys out here. I'm writing from Canada, having met up with our family line last year outside of Nottingham [Kinoulton] where some Lincolnshire ancestors moved in the early 1800s. Keith Oxby has worked on the family tree back to the early 1600s. Sally (Oxby) McClinton of Halifax, Yorkshire is also looking for ancestors from Wellingore, Brant Broughton areas. We also have an Oxby writing from New Zealand. Just where you fit in remains to be seen. Please write back and tell us more!

Hi there...better late than never! Some time ago I received info from a Cathy in Carrington, North Dakota re some of our family members...the Ketts as well as the Oxbys. Please reply with more details as to your research. I live outside of Toronto, Ontario, and most of my Oxby relatives came from a little place named Sadowa, near Orillia [in Ontario].

Hi,

thank you for the response. Do you know the last name of the Cathy from North Dakota? I live in North Dakota.
Here is a brief family tree:

Luke Oxby and Bridget Day (1800 and 1803) born at Bramston England, Came to North Augusta Ontario Canada.
Their son Thomas Oxby married Marth May Harley. Their daughter Margaret May Oxby married Albert Peterson . Their daughter Laura Mae, Married William Clinton Peterson. Their son Andrew Peterson married me.

Margaret Peterson came to North Dakota and homesteded in 1902-1904

I have never had any mention in any of the family history about the town that you family came from.

If you would like further information Please feel free to contact me.

Hello again.

From the little bits of research I have done to date, it seems that all the Oxbys originated in Lincolnshire, and were probably descendants of the Vikings [maybe from Denmark--there is a place named Oksby on the coast]. It does not seem that Luke Oxby is part of our family line, at least not from the year 1800. My Oxby family is believed to have arrived in Ontario in the 1850's, and the rest of the family is still living in England, in a village named Kinoulton, outside of Nottingham. One of the members lives on the original Pear Tree Farm from which two Oxby brothers, Robert and Charles came to Canada. Robert was my great-great-grandfather. I have a printout about Luke Oxby [m. to Bridget Day]. I hope you can access it at www.rootsweb.com/~onwellin/pioneers/oxby_luke.htm

It is late now, but I will look up Cathy's name etc. [may be Paulsen]. She tells me that my great-grandmother and hers were sisters [surname Kett before marriage]

Hi Clem

I have managed to get back to 1788 and all my ancestors are from Lincolnshire or just over the border into Nottinghamshire. I would be interested to see if a our lines cross anywhere. Hope to hear from you soon
