Hi, I'm starting to research my roots, and I would appreciate any help. My GGrandmother was Charlotte Brown Oxby, daughter of Robert.

I have a bit of info going back to Thomas Oxby, b 1737, but no further. You mentioned that they probably descend from Vikings, so I have to ask how far back you can follow.

I'll share anything I have.
Thanks,
Bryn

my nanna is related to keith oxby in kinoulton, my nannas name is Joan Margaret Oxby, and she had a sister Nessie Oxby. Their mother and father had the Lime Kiln Pub near to Owthorpe, not that far away from Kinoulton. My nanna has said many times she is related to keith oxby. Have you come across my nannas side of the family? i am trying to track down my dads side of the family you see, the mattock family, my nanna was married to mr.horace mattock, and she had 3 children, pamela mattock, robert mattock, and michael mattock. i am robert mattocks oldest daughter, sarah. please reply and tell me any info you can on the oxbys, i only know of my nanna, her sister, keith, and there are a few more oxbys dotted about kinoulton way arent there who are related, but i dont know who they are. i do know that my nannas dad had a house at hickling in leicestershire, and it was passed to my nanna. my dad has four daughters, including myself, sarah, cheryl, naomi and bethany. and myself, cheryl and naomi all have children too. my dad knows keith oxby really well, but i live in Cornwall, and my father lives in East Yorkshire so i can only go on what i remember at the moment from growing up. my nanna lives next door to michael, her youngest son, not far from Colston Bassett and Cropwell Bishop. if i am not mistaken, the oxbys work/worked the land, as my nannas father owned farming land too.

Hello

I live in Hathern near Loughborough in Leicestershire. We have been clearing out at our local Baptist church and have found a family Bible belonging to an Oxby family who lived in our village for several years. We wonder if you might be interested in the Bible since anyone with links to the Oxby's of Kinoulton is almost certainly related to the Oxby's who eventually farmed in Hathern.

We believe there are no living descendants of this family in the area. However, from the details in the family Bible we know that Robert Oxby m. Sarah Abbott 1st March 1808 in Grantham. Robert and Sarah moved to Kinoulton in Notts before 1830. They had several sons, some of whom married and stayed in the Kinoulton area.

The Bible focusses on their son John (a wheelwright and born in 1811 in Carlton, Lincolnshire) who married Sarah Parkinson of Sileby in Leicestershire on 12th Nov 1830. Several of John and Sarah's sons married and settled in the Kinoulton area, but their 3rd Son, Thomas, eventually settled in the Barrow Upon Soar area of Leicestershire (a few miles over the county border). He married Emma Simpkin from Barrow upon Soar in 1865. In 1881 he was a farmer at Newyork Farm near Seagrave. His oldest (and only surviving) son, John, married Elizabeth Peat at Long Whatton (Leicestershire).

Thomas and Emma had several daughters, but only one, Ann Emily, married (in Edmonton in Canada in 1911). According to the family Bible she was about 41 years old when she married so it's possible she had no children.

John and Elizabeth had two sons, William George (who may have been called George) b.1899 and John Francis (1901 - 1930). John (a farmer)and Elizabeth settled in Hathern, and and far as we can tell, George also became a farmer and lived in Hathern, but it's possible that he had no children.

The Bible also records the death of (Uncle) George in May 1924. He was Thomas' brother, and was probably a farmer. He lived in the Kinoulton area.

I have carried out some basic research into the family using the 1841 - 1901 census returns and the LDS IGI so can let you have any findings that might help in your own research.

Thank you
Ruth Stephens

Hello Ruth,
I was pleased to receive a package from Keith Oxby of Kinoulton. He met with you recently and retrieved the Oxby Family Bible. I am also a descendant of this family line (5th generation Canadian), so am thrilled to know that it found its way to family. Thank you so much for caring enough to follow through on your end!
Many thanks...Linda Oxby Mangolt
