Re: Owczarzak Family Chicago Area
Hi Karen: I am not sure if we have a connection or not but I do know that my ggrandfather had a brother who came to U.S. and lived down in the Chicago area, possibly Joliet. I was told his first name was Valentine but he may have changed/used a different one. I was also told there was possibly two sisters that came over too.
This is the info I have on my Owczarzak: Ignatz(Ignatius) Owczarzak b: 1863 in Poland married a Stella Kajdan 1887 in Posnan. I just found their immigration info in the Germans to America Index a few days ago. They came to U.S. 4-1-1890 with one daughter, Hedwig 10 months old using the spelling OWCZCZOK. They settled in Bay City, MI.
They had 12 children: Hedwig, John, Joseph, Peter, Francis, Josephine, Mary, Blanche, Anna, Edward, Alexander, and Stanley (my line).
I was also told that Ignatz had changed his surname from what it was in Poland but his brother kept the original family name which I was told was WASZAK (spelling questionable).
If any of this rings any bells please let me know.

Re: Owczarzak Family Chicago Area
Bonnie thanks for your reply. I have no information on the parents or siblings of Joseph. You mention a Joseph in your family, do you have more info on him? I know the family has connections to Wisconsin, I am not sure about Michigan. This is my husbands family. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Owczarzak Family Chicago Area
Bonnie, we have a hit! My ggrandmother was a sister to Stanley, Valentine and Ignatius and had a sister Mary. Mary and Ignatius lived in Bay City, MI. and Valentine was living in Chicago. Stanley was in Poland at the time of Magdaline's death in 1935 in Bay City, MI. She was married to Casper Krzyminski. In the 1910 census it states that Casper's mother-inlaw was living with them. Edith Wazchka. On Magdaline's death cit it list her mother name as Hattie Novack and her father as George Waszak? I hope to hear from you.

Re: Owczarzak Family Chicago Area
Hi Paula: Before I duplicate myself in writing a reply, you aren't the Mabel who just e-mailed me, are you? Since the content was virtually the same in your message here and the one sent to my e-mail address by Mabel I just want to see if you are the same person or not before I repeat the same info. If you are great, and I have already responded to you, and if you are not, also great because that means another interested person in researching this family, and I will get back to you with info. Take care, Bonnie

Re: Owczarzak Family Chicago Area
Not sure if there is a connection here-my grandfather John Owczarzak lived in southeast side of Chicago (92nd & Chappel). He had 3 brothers, Frank, Steve & Roman. Also 1 sister named Stella. John's father was Valentine Owczarzak (born in Poland). Valentine was married to Victoria (not sure of maiden name).

Re: Owczarzak Family Chicago Area
Hi Lucy: I am so glad to finally see a familial connection to my Owczarzak ancestors. My great grandfather Ignatius was Valentine's brother. Ignatius and wife Stella raised their family in Bay City, MI. I have gathered some census on Valentine's family in Chicago in order to try to find the answer to the million dollar question: Where exactly in Poland did Valentine and Ignatius come from??????? I have ship info on Ignatius and family and since it was pre-Ellis Island that is as far as I have gotten. I believe from census info Valentine and family came around the same time. I would like to communicate further and share info on the families if you would e-mail me direct I will be really happy to hear from you. bjs917@hotmail.comBonnie
