I have been doing a lot of census checking on the o'saile. They definately are listed as Hosale in the censuses. I have a listing for a James Hosale, all his children with O'Saile in the 1900 davidson co. census but I can't find them now. I need to know the enumeration distract or area they lived in to narrow it down. There are loads of Hosales but I haven't quite figured out how they are connected. I find our John Hosale in a few of the censuses but I can't quite connect him to his original family. Our John appears in 1910 & 1920 censuses in Sumner county 7th district. Anyone know about where he was before that. He doesn't show in sumner co. 7th or 9th districts. I suspect davidson co but I don't know where to begin. (I also picked up a few other variations of the name but I don't know if they are connected. Anyone else know? In one county several of the names show up in the same census.

Hi. I was born an o'sail in Sumter S.C. Was given up for adoption at birth. My adoptive parents were S.T Dees and Mary Dees. They are both deceased now and I found my Birth Certificate with the Name Robert O'Sail (Me) I know I have some brothers and a sister out there somewhere. If you have any information on O'sails living in Sumter S.C around 1966 I would appreciate finding out anything about my family. Not wanting to locate but interested in my family history..Thanks, Bobby Dees

Dear Brenda O'Sail-
I noticed your messages on this service. My branch of the family seems missing rom ost archives. Maybe we can help each other out? I am 30 years old. My Father, Robert Anthony Hosaleborn in 1942, had me from his second marriage. During his first marriage he had two daughters Lisa and Laurie, they are aroun 8-10years older than I am. My grandfather was Frank A. Hosale, he was born on 20 Nov 1914 as Francis but prefered to called Frank. He married my grandmother Lucille Sinnes in the late 1930's or early 1940's, she is still alive and 81 years young! Grandpa Frank was originally born in or around Nashville, but his family soon moved to Miami and there is a whole Florida branch of Hosale's there. My grandfather had a brother name Morgan "Butch" Daniel Hosale. My grandfather's parents were Morgan Daniel and Idella. Morgan Daniel died a long time ago, but Idella died in may of 1979 in Miami. My grandmother seems to remeber that my Great Grandfather changed his last name from O'sail or O'saile in the early part of the century 'because he liked it better'. But be warned, I find there are strange rumors about my family's doings and going ons. What I wonder is... Who is My great grand father's father? Maybe it is John Hosale? or someone else? I think for me this will clear up a lot of mysteries. I am sure there is some connection, however distant, between our family lines. thank you- MarkDavid

Thanks for your reply. It is great to hear from you. I think we can help each other. All the Hosales in the Tennessee area were related. Some of the names you mentioned sound familiar. I'll check my records. This family is a mess as far as tracking. There were so many with the same names it becomes difficult trying to sort them into families. Grandma said the family originated (at least in the states) as Hosale. Two branches that I know of changed to O'Saile and one on to O'Sail. Some eventually went back to Hosale. For a while, in records the same people used both Hosale and O'Saile. Grandma said that two brothers traveled from Ireland carrying jacks and jennies to Spain. One brother stayed in Spain, the other came to America. The only other place I have found Hosale outside of the US is in Spain. I often wonder if they are descendants of the brother. I have the feeling the name was not even originally Hosale because it hasn't been tracked to any other country. I did see in one census that the Hosale came from Spain. However, Grandma is certain they were originally from Ireland. It's confusing. Anyway, I do have info we can share so please feel free to e-mail me at osailb@yahoo.com. I can tell you what I have. I've been working for awhile trying to sort out the Hosale, O'Saile, O'Sail clan. I'm sure your info will help.
Thanks,
Brenda
