I am looking for information on the Hosale, O'Saile, O'Sail families of Tennessee. They show up in several counties. I am of the O'Sail branch.Have tied back to John Hosale (O'Saile)b-abt 1864 children include Claude, Jessie, John M., Lelburn or Lelbert, William Sumner, Ada sue, Eva, James carl, Sammie Lee, Alma, Deane, Clara, Evalen. Most have name of O'Saile. Claude and his branch dropped the e. I think John Hosale may have been the son or nephew of James Hosale b-1847& Louisa or Sonia. They are all of the same area (show up in Sumner census 1920) and James's children all carried the name O'Saile in the 1900 census. The same offspring show up as Hosale in the 1920 census. There are also many other hosales that I am sure are related somehow (Rev. Lawrence, Mat, Charles, William, Alfred,Viola, Ceena, Betty, Cullen, Germas, Jas., Helen). I could really use some help sorting all this out. I know there are lots of you out there. Help!!!

I'm pretty sure I have some info on her in my file. Let me look it up. You may already have more about her than I can offer but I may be able to provide additional info on family connections along the osaile line. Feel free to e-mail me if I don't get back to you soon.

I have Viola Deane O'Saile, also showing as Diana O'Saile, born May 6, 1894. She married Ollie (Lee) Smith. Their children were Ollie Milton Smith Jr. and Lelbern Lea Smith. I don't show anymore details on that particular family group. Any info you get please share with me. Viola was the daughter of John Wesley Hosale (Hosay) b- feb. 28, 1862 Sumner Co. Tenn occ. farmer d-Nov 27, 1937 buried Beech Cumberland Cemetery & Nancy (Nannie) Elizabeth Johnson b-abt 1875-79 in Robertson Co d-abt Nov 12, 1911. They were married abt 1892. John was married 2 or three times and has another line of children from wife Scena(Cennie). I have info on that line too if you are interested. John and Nannie's children, besides Viola, were Claude Samuel (my husbands grandfather). John McMillen. Lelburn(Lelbert) Carmical, Jessie Lea, William (Sumner), Ada Sue, Evalen M., Clara, and Alma. I think I got them all! I do have some info on birth and death dates, spouses and children for these siblings if your interested. A lot of my info was collected from my husbands grandmother and census records. There is some confusion in the census records because names changed a lot and at one point an additional child showed, a Birtha, that didn't fit in anywhere else. Viola was also confusing in a few spots. As near as I can tell John Wesley, Viola's father, was the son of William Hosale and Sally. Unfortunately there were a few William Hosales around at that time, all related, and they liked to name their children with similar names so it became impossible to tell which William was the actual father of John Wesley. There were also a few John's as well so tracking the family back any further didn't work out. The name has changed over time not sure if it started as Hosale, Hosay or Hosea, all three have been represented. It went to Hosale, which changed to O'Saile and then in some lines went back to Hosale and others on to O'Sail. Most stayed with O'Saile. There is possible ancestry of Spain, Ireland and or Hosage Indian. Different family lines have been told different things. One census did show that a William Hosale was from Spain. Older photos show dark skinned people however there are also lines that are very Irish in look. One line was told they originated as Hosage Indian. During the time period Indians were being sent to reservations and they may have claimed to be Spanish to avoid being sent. I have never been able to track the name outside of the us other than in Hawaii and one in Spain. Our line was told two brothers came from Ireland, one went to Spain one went to the US. Who knows for sure. Let me know if there are additional lines you are interested in. I take it you are connected through the Smith line.
