Martha apparently died in 1856 but other than that I know nothing more about her marriage to Henry Millington. I don't know when Henry died, I know they had a daughter Sarah in 1841 who died in 1842 and this is the only time I have a record of the family in a census. in 1851 their son George, my great-grandfather, is living with his grandmother Hannah Orwin.

Does anybody know anything more?

Sue

Hi.Not sure if this went first time so forgive me if it is a repeat!I have also heard from "brendathewlis" on ancestry who has Samuel married to Mary Ann Hayes, but i think that is because Samuel Brannan married Ann Hayes in 1892 and Mary was born to them in 1901! so I think she had her Mothers maiden name on the birth certificate.
Keep in touch, my tree is "Lydia" have a look.
Marilyn.

Hi. Great to hear from you,Yes i am sure we have a connection, though there does seem to be some confusion along the way, another contact I have found has a marrage certificate to say that Samual Orwin + Mary A Hayes Oct/Dec1913 Barnsley. I know that Samuel Brannan mary Brannan's father was married to Ann Hayes, but I think they married after Mary was born.Which would be why her birth certificate said Hayes and not Brannan.Mary Brannan's father was my great grandfather.I attache a photo of the Brannan family taken around 1920
Have a look at my tree Lydia.
Best wishes and please keep in touch.
Marilyn.

There are still Williams in the family!

(Sorry this is a bit nebulous - it's my late husband's family and you know how it is when you hear a story a few dozen times) :-)

Hello
thanks for the e mail - I still do the family tree on and off - I don't think you ever lose interest! My great grandmother Charlotte was an Orwin. Her Grandfather, William owned land and an ironstone mine in Newbold, Nr Chesterfield. He was from Brimmington, Chesterfield and had several brothers. Without getting all the stuff out, I believe that your James was either a brother or nephew of his. James left Chesterfield after being recruited by the Mormons and emigrated to the states. He seemed to spend several dangerous years getting to Beaver, Utah, having several children on the way. I have been in touch with Rae from Reno who is a direct descendent from James and knows quite a lot about him. I think she is on this web site but if not I have her e mail address.
If you need more I'm happy to help
thanks
Heather

Started doing research into my family in 2000 and just going back to it! My ancestor is John Orwin who married Dorothy Delap in 1812 at All Saints church in Newcastle upon Tyne in a joint wedding with his brother Michael and his wife Isabella Heath. John and Dorothy had five children, the eldest of whom was James born 1815 who married Elizabeth Peacock in 1834 in Jarrow. I know that Sue in Australia is related to Michael Orwin, anyone else got any info on this branch of the family who are all from Newcastle upon Tyne?

Best regards,

Nicola Bullough (née Orwin)

Mary Hopper was born 17 Sep 1793 in St Oswald, Durham and was Baptised 08/12/1793 St. Oswald’s Durham.

MICHAEL and MARY had one child that I know of:

MARY ANN ORWIN was born 1817 in North Shields, and died Mar 1897 in Newcastle on Tyne. She married THOMAS ELDER 04 Oct 1841 in St Mary's Church, Gateshead, son of ALEXANDER ELDER and JANE SMITH. Thomas was born Abt. 1818 in Newcastle on Tyne, and died Sep 1878.

I am an “Elder” and know the line from then on but would like information about the Orwin side.
I am looking for any information regarding Mary Orwin, born abt. 1817.

Background: On the 1841 Census Mary is listed at the same house as my Gt Gt Grandfather Thomas Elder and his Sister Isabella. Subsequent Census data shows that Thomas was married to a "Mary Ann" and they had their first child "Mary A" in 1842. Mary Orwin's birthplace is not given on the 1841 Census but subsequent Census's show Mary Ann's birthplace as North Shields.

It is possible (probable) that Mary Orwin was my Gt Gt Grandmother
His father was Thomas, born in 1814 in Newcastle on Tyne, died in 1878..his father was George Orwin, possibly a miner! Hoping that this is of some help. Pam

I am an orwin and currently doing the orwin family tree. James Orwin went to the usa and aussie in 1852. He went on the Ship Ellen from Liverpool in 1852 with his wife Sarah. James finally ended in Beaver, Utah. I have quite a bit of info on the Orwin family if you want to contact me, I know this is a very old post, so hopefully you still check it out

Orwin family

I have traced my Orwin family back to Robert Orwin who was born 22 March 1828 in Bermondsey, London. His father was also a Robert and his mother was Sarah Freeman of Frindsbury in Kent. Robert and his father were both Millers as were his mother's family the Freemans. I am trying to find out where Rober Orwin sr came from, he died before the 1851 census. The family left London and eventually ended up in Hull,E.Yorkshire, Robert Orwin jr worked as a Miller in Bishop Wearmouth, Sunderland and in Lincolnshire. Is there maybe a connection with the Orwins from Bishop Wearmouth and has anyone else found any Millers in their Orwin family?
If anyone has any useful information then please let me know.
kind regards, Debra

Hello Lynne Aldridge,
I have only recently started researching my family tree, but from information I have, the earliest link I have to date is with an Orwin family from Blyth, Northumberland. This Orwin had three sons - William Orwin (1800-1871) - Ebenezer Orwin (1802 - ????) and Ezra Orwin 1803-1818 ?). William married a Mary Clarke at Stavely, Chesterfield in 1821. Hoping this info is of use to you. Bert Orwin of Chesterfield..
