Sharon, Im sure now we've been looking for the same one, Nicholas John Orth born in Prussia (1852-1922). He is my great grandfather and the family lore says he came from Hamburg. I do have his California death certifcate. I have been tracking him for many years under the name of Nicholas and having little success. This meassage board is great.

I was recently in Orth Germany and found many intersting things about the Orth name. There are two towns in Germany called Orth. One is found in North Germany along the Baltic sea. Orth is an aristocratic name and they were Baltic Princes. I don't know what happen to them since they came to the States, but in Germany it is a rare name. The 2nd town of Orth is located in the middle of the country.
