O'Quinn family photos

Thanks for posting that memorial to Hardy, Julie. If only the writer had signed his name!

I have several old photos that I believe are most likely to be sons of Hardy OQuinn, or maybe grandsons. I sent those to you, and would like to share for identification purposes with anyone who wants to see them.

I wish there was an effort to get the old photos out and post them. Surely I am not the only one who has old photos! I had to beg an aunt to finally get around to getting them out for me. Sometimes that's what you have to do, be a pest.

If anyone has any interest in starting an OQuinn family photo site, I'd love to hear your ideas.

Anna OQuinn Richter (Hardy-Joseph Perry-Joseph Hansford-Jacob OQuinn, is my line)

Anna,
I like your idea about an O'Quinn family photo site. I am more than willing to assist with any efforts to get it going. Are you thinking of having identified O'Quinns as well as unidentified photos of "possible" O'Quinns? Also, is this something we could do here on ancestry.com, or are you thinking of launching a separate website...or using a social network like Facebook? I am interested to hear what you have in mind. In any case, count me in!
Julie

Hi Julie

I started the OQuinn Database tree for anyone that wants to contribute whatever they want to. If you think it would be better to do it on Facebook or a website, I guess we could do that, but I'm not sure how to do it. Facebook, I could probably handle that.

I say we take any photos we can get-I've got a bunch of unidentified OQuinn photos, you know. Just need to figure out how to post them with no name on Ancestry. There you go..No Name OQuinns. I'll do that.

Be nice if this board got going again.

Anna,

Would it work just as well to post the "no names" on the same O'Quinn Database tree? Folks who have information/questions could write in the "comment" box.

As far as this board goes...you are right, it would be good if it were as active as it once seemed to be. I know I have gotten good information and hints by reading older posts here. However, most of my own exchange of information is done privately. Also, as you know, until recently, I even had my tree set to private for what I thought were good reasons. Even though I was diligent in making sure my information was as accurate as possible, I did not want to run the risk of adding any further mis-information "out there" since there is already so much of it. It was after hearing your prospective, that I realized it really does make much more sense to share whatever information I have. I guess my initial perspective was a little counter-productive regardless of my well intentioned reasoning.

Having said all of that, I will make a point to increase my use of this board as a means of information exchange. Also, I would like to invite anyone with a private tree containing O'Quinn information to please consider changing your tree to public so that we may all benefit from your information...you never know what little tidbit of information will be the key to unlocking this mind boggling O'Quinn mystery!

Hi Julie,
My name is Ann O'Quinn Newman & I think we crossed paths several yrs ago when my family & I lived in Hawaii.I was doing a good bit of researching & pretty much hit a serious brick wall around that same time. I've been doing a little as it comes in & a family member sent me an e-mail abt Anna's msg, so I thought I would send you one too. Have the two of you started anything with the photos? I also collected photos. I made copies of whatever I could whenever I could. Almost like pulling teeth at times! LOL! Hope to hear from you! Ann

O GOOD LORD. It's ANN O'QUINN NEWMAN!! If you could know how hard, how many times I've tried to get in touch with you! You were doing so much research 10 years ago and your posts and your name were everywhere. I dreamed of what you might have found out and I'd never learn...

No, we didnt cross paths. I've read your posts for years but I didnt start doing genealogy until a year ago, and I've done nothing but since then. I'm getting better at online research all the time but the more I learn, the more I realize what I dont know.

Here's the situation. Three of us are-well, two, actually-are working on O'Quinns in SC. They are so tangled that we thought if we could just do a database of all of them, maybe we'd get somewhere. Julie, whose posts are here in this thread, Missanner (with whom you were in contact years ago, she tells me) and myself. Anne is working more consistently than I. I am backed into a corner with my mother's Worsham family right now and cant do much on O'Quinns. Anne has THE tree-she's putting all O'Quinns on it. She and I are requesting all of the O'Quinn obits that appeared in the State Newspaper-we've collected 30 or so I think-they only allow 3 at a time. When she gets them she parses them for all the names in them. Julie and I had her brother and my father DNA tested. She descends from the Hardy family, one of the 'brothers' in that household and we also have at least one old Civil War story in common that was passed down to us in our families, so we know our families were close at one time (otherwise, we never knew each other). The one about the boys in the woods shooting marauders that demanded dinner from the womenfolk? You heard that one? My dad tested out to be of the Hudson line, by the way, with an exact match to a Hudson gentleman in California. Julie's brother-I'll let her tell that. But I dont think any of the southern O'Quinn families would test as "O'Quinns." Not that it really matters. We're all O'Quinns.

I have some unidentified photos that came down to me from my ggrandfather Joseph Perry O'Quinn that I'd love for you to see. And we would love to see yours as well. Give me an email addy to send them to.

You have made my day! Welcome back!

Ann,

I forgot. One of the purposes of trying to put together all the O'Quinns is, we thought we'd contact people and ask for their old photos (scans). I've been very successful with my mother's side of the family doing this-I've collected hundreds. We know the old pictures are out there; just needs someone to pursue this, and thats what I love more than anything, hunting pictures. So eventually, I'll start calling people and chatting them up, but I'll need to know a little about their lines in order to do so. Which is one of the reasons we're making an effort to sort out the Colleton County O'Quinns.

I'd love to have your participation, your energy, your research!

Anna

ANN!! I can't believe it! We are so glad you are back!! I sent you a message via email since I tend to be a little verbose. Wow! I know Anna must be singing after hearing from you! Can't wait for us to get back on track with our elusive O'Quin boys!

Hello again!
The only problem I have is that I don't live in SC right now & I'm several states over. That would make it kinda hard to get the pictures. We go home every summer, but I don't always have time to visit with everyone I would like to.I collected old photos as I went along & when the people were willing to share. I'm sure you know how hard that can be!Please let me know the how, when & where, so I can maybe help out. Thanks! Ann
