John O'Quin & Grace Spivey

John O'Quin & Grace Spivey

I am looking for anyone who has documentation he/she would share re: John's parents and Grace's parents. (And any other infor re: their ancestors.) I've seen online info that says John's father might be Alexander and Grace's father might be George. Nowhere can I find proof of this. Family history says there were 5 O'Quinn brothers who came from England trying to escape Episcopalian Church persecution. John's grandson Andrew Jackson told family members this info. Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

Carol,
I too am looking for that information, I am a descendent of John O'Quin by way of James E., John Lovette Sr., John Lovette Jr. and Hazel O'Quin.
My Aunt Hilma (Daughter of John Lovette Jr. says that oral history says that John O'Quin's Father was Daniel O'Quin, but no proof there either. If you find anything please forward it on to me.
Thanks,

If it is the same John O'Quin and Grace Spivey that are buried in Seymor Cemetery in Mississippi, then I have some info on the O'Quin side.
John's father would be Tarlow O'Quin and his mother would be Elizabeth (Roundtree) O'Quin. Tarlow is the original immigrant from Ireland and most likely came over in the late 1600's. The story goes that he was catholic and she protestant and they were getting so much flack from both sides that he came to America to make his fortune and then he would send back for her. He eventually did make enough money to send back for her and obtained for himself a large estate in North Carolina called Runaway Meadows or possibly Roonoroy Meadows. One of their sons was John O'Quin who supposedly fought in the Revolutionary War. I'd like more information about John if you have it. My email is scottcanion@hotmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon.

Scott

Surnames: Spivey Roundtree
I have some information to add but unfortunately I forgot to write down from what source I found this.

John O'Quin was born 25 Nov 1746 in Edgecombe County, NC. His parents were Tarlar O'Quin born about 1730, location unknown, and his mother was Elizabeth Roundtree. I do not have her date of birth or place of birth. His siblings were a brother, Taylor, and a sister Polly.

Elizabeth Roundtree's parents were Francis Roundtree b. 1685 in Virginia, d. 17 Sep 1730 in Virginia. Her mother was Anna Sumner, no other info.

I also have noted that Grace Spivey's father was George Spivey Jr. but I have no information about her mother.

Hope this helps make some more connections for somebody!

Just for future researchers: The cemetery was SMYRNA CEMETERY, NOT SEYMOUR, where some O'QUIN's were buried. This is now in Walthall county, Mississippi, which used to be a part of Old PIKE COUNTY. It was near old Holmesville area.

Also Tarlow O'Quin appears as Tarlar, Tarler, Tarlough, Tyler, and also I thought the Orphan boy O'Quin & Elizabeth Roundtree came over as indentured servants together.....? Is there anymore found on that?
