Hello Brian,
I'm the granddaughter of Stanley Opalach of New Jersey/New York, but other than that I don't know much about the family. I'd be interested in keeping in touch with you as you learn more (I assume we're related - there aren't be too many Opalachs in the US!) There's a Polish woman named Agata Opalach I've been meaning to get in touch with through email - maybe she knows more about who left the village?
I live in Oakland, California. What about you?
Good luck,
Bethany Opalach

Hi Bethany. You said you were related to
Stanley Opalach. There were several Stanley
Opalachs, most of the ones I knew of lived in Manchester
CT. There was Stanislaw and Mary, who had 4 sons
(a Stanley among them) and 6 daughters. There
was a Stanley R. married to a Helen W.
who had one daughter. There was a Stanley married
to Mari-ann who had 4 children: Helen, Casimer
Joseph and Chester.
My great grandfather, Joseph, settled in DE
in 1904ish, and all of the Opalachs there
can be traced back to him and his brother.
I'm in the Navy, stationed in CT.
Are you related to Dan Opalach, the timberguy?
I read a lot on the internet about him.
There aren't too many Opalachs in CA, I
suppose. This message format is tough for me
to see what I'm writing. Please e-mail
me at BTOPALACH@NETSCAPE.NET. Thanx, Brian

I didn't know them personally, but I might be able to tell you something you don't know. I've done a lot of research on line and off, I think many of the Opalachs came from a town in Poland called Prasznis, or Sierakowa. According to the Social Security Administration, Stanley Opalach and Ludwika Blinkovich had Stanley Walter Opalach on Dec 7, 1920. Btopalach@netscape.net

Did you, or do you, know of any other Opalachs in New Jersey? There is a Felix Opalach listed on the "Immagrant Wall of Honor" on Ellis Island (so far the only Opalach listed) who lived in Wheeling, WV and had two sons (Peter and John) and later moved to Bayonne, NJ and had more children: Walter Stanley, Joseph John, Anthony, Lillian (Mrowicki), Paul, and Mary (Garrison). I just figured if you were born in Hackensack, you might have some info. Right now I'm in Portsmouth, NH and I recently bumped into a shipyard worker who is married to an Opalach from the Manchester, CT branch. Small world.

Hi Brian, my dad is John Opalach Jr, His grandfather was Felix Opalach. My dad was born in New Jersey. His brother Joseph Opalach still lives there. My dad also has a sister, not sure where she lives. I'm Thaddeus Opalach. I have 3 other siblings, John III, Regina, and Matthew. We are not sure where the name originates, possibly Poland. There was a Russian Opera singer with the same last name. We're not sure if the spelling was changed at Ellis. Later.

I've been through NJ a couple of times. Right now I live in (stationed in, actually) NH and my family is in DE. Spent a lot of time in libraries in Jersey City and its environs. Felix was married to Victoria Fraczykiewicz and had (I think) 8 child'ens. Felix's name is on the immigrant wall of honor on Ellis Island. Judging by the number of Opalach's who came over and kept the same spelling, and the number of Opalach's who still live in Poland, I don't think the spelling has changed. My great grandfather came from the town of Prasznis or Sierakowa (near Gdansk) and there is a "castle Opalinski" there. I'm guessing this is a clue to the origin of the name. Thanks for your info, later, Brian
