Seeking information about William or Willem Ooms family.
Born 1848-1850 in the Netherlands, married "Alice" (possibly Altje?) whose maiden name might have been Kinst, also b. in NL about the same time. Their son Adam (aka Edward) Ooms born in Chicago (according to family history) Jan. 1878,, married Jennie Deboer.
Adam/Edward's uncle was "Cornelius Kinst" (Kunst?), we have a great photo of him. Family story is that he was a Fleischmann's Yeast salesman! Trying to make the connections.

I might have some more details about the Adam you mention (coming from the book 'Vijf Eeuwen Ooms'.
However, I don't think that this is the Adam that Rebecca Snetselaar is (was?) looking for since her Adam was born in Chicago

The Adam you (Roger) mention is the son of Willem Ooms born in 1777:
Adam Ooms, b 23 May 1825 in Noordeloos
1st marriage Grietje Hagenaar (5 children, only Willem survived his first year of life (born 20-10-1849)
2nd marriage Adriana Vogel (aka Yanna?) 5 children all born In Noordeloos (dates in dd-mm-yy):
Aaltje (20-8-1858)
Huibert (18-1-1860)
Arie (28-1-1863)
Cornelis (17-4-186, died 12-5-1865)
Cornelis (1-4-1866)

This family moved to the USA on April 21st 1866. Of course it could very well be that the son Willem (of the 1st marriage) got a son that he named Adam or Edward that was born in Chicago. At least the year of birth matches the date that Rebecca mentioned.

Hi Marco,

My email has changed and I just checked in on this board and found your posts. I am interested in the Ooms family you referenced that came to U.S. 1866; esp. the reference to William b. 1849. Wondering if you have any other details. My "Adam" Ooms was the son of Willem. Adam married Aaltje/Alice Dejong/Deyoung who came to U.S. in 1866 with her family. I've hit a brick wall on this line and so am interested in any possible connections.

Do you know where these Ooms settled when they came over? Or any other details.

Thanks!

Rebecca Snetselaar

Please email if you have additional information!

Hi Rebecca,

Dawn Dooly gave me a lot of info about the Ooms in the US. I'll send you what I got from her and what I have from Adam(who moved to the US in 1866) and his ancestors.

Huibert (Herbert) Ooms is a relation of mine as well as Adam and Janna. In fact I just saw where they are buried yesterday in Munster, IN.
