Congrats! Glad to hear the family tree is growing. I would love to share what I have. Most of it is on the Kupka line as my grandfather, Charles Kupka, was a brother to Frances. It does go back several generations so I am sure you would be interested. Also, I do have some Ondrasek contacts that may be able to help you with that line. Do you have a photo of Jacob and Lizzie? Feel free to contact me by email: heritagehunt@gmail.com.
Thanks,Madonna

Jacob Ondrashek is my Great Great Grandfather. I know his father was named Martin Ondrashek born in 1818 in Bohemia. His great great Grandmother was Mary Kucerova born in 1832 in Bohemia. I have information on Jacobs sibblings, but I don't have anything past Martin. That is what I am hoping to find. Unfortunately I don't have much information to clue me in to where they were from. Julie

I would love to. Please e-mail me back and we can compare notes. I have not been working on this for awhile because I had my little girl almost four months ago. I would love to get more information on my family. My Grandmother was Marcella Frances Ondrasek. I have her great grandfather Martin Ondrashek born 1818 Bohemia and great grandmother Mary Kucerova 1832. I also have their children. I want information further back if possible or to fill in holes that I don't have.

I am the great grandson of Barbra (Ondreshek) Hron. I have very little information on this side of the family and would love to know any more if possible. I know that she was born Aug. 6, 1889, and died Dec. 1981 in Protivin, IA. she married Frank Hron. They had two children, Mildred Marie Hron, and Edward Hron. I would really like to learn as much as possible about any roots of this part of my family tree. Any help would be greatly appreachated.
Thank you,
Jesse Smith

I am researching my line of Vitopils also.
I believe my great grandfather (antone vytopil) came to Texas via Galveston in the late 1800's. My grandfather (antone buck vytopil) was born in brazos county, texas in 1884. I have found no records of the immigration so I am not sure where they came from.
My father says that one of my grandfathers brothers changed the spelling from vy to vi when he was a county official for part of the family but some insisted on the vy spelling. Thus we have both spellings in Texas.
Would appreciate any info you have, especially relating to immigration and europe history.

Just ran across your message. Anton Vytopil was my great grand father. Acording to the 1910 census, he was 60, immigrated in 1877. Acording to the 1920 census he was 74 and immigrated in 1876. Other records indicate he was born 06 Jun 1845 and married Marie Elzner. These may be the same people you found (names and ages agree) but I guess they would have made a trip to Europe and returned in 1901. The other information on the Repals agrees with what I have found. Did you find the source for your 1901 information?

Antonin Vytopil, age 56, a farmer, arrived in Glaveston, Texas from Veterov, Bohemia aboard the Norderney on 8 November 1901. His destination was Bryan, Texas. I did not copy the name of the book this was in, but on my next trip to the library I will.

So far, I have no info on his wife, Mary (Maria) Elzner Repal, but a Flortentyna (Florentine), age 43 arrived there from the same hometown at the same time on the same ship. I wonder if she was Maria's sister or sister-in-law. She was married to Frank, who come from Veterov at age 45 aboard the Hegoland. Their daughter, Veronica came from Veterov aboard the Halle on 11 June 1900, and married Cyrille "Sydney" Vytopol 10 November 1904 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas.

A Franz Elzner, age 40, from Veterov came with his family on the Frankfort 26 September 1904. . .Marie 28, Franz 11, Stepan 9, Francisca 4 3/4, Stanislaw 3, Edward 1. On 31 January 1909 F. R. and Marie Elzner had a male child, and Anton Elzner was born to Frnak and Mary Polla Elzner on 23 March 1910.

Would appreciate anything you could pass on about this family.

Mary Anderson

I have found the reference to the name Vytopil through the search engine. Originally I am from Blizkovice, Moravia in the Czech republic. I have been working on recinstructing may family tree. Just for your information: Vytopil is an infrequent name. The Central Register of the Population of the Czech Republic informs there are 71 Vytopils and 74 Vytopilovás (the female version of the name) in total in the Czech Republic. Thee are some Vytopils in Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and US. An alternative spelling is Vitopil, Witopil, or Wytopil.

We can trace the family tree to 1612.
In the data that I have gathered there is a reference to Vytopil Josef, born 1864 in Blizkovice Ves 36. I do not have any additional information about his children, or whether he emigrated to US. Josef is quite frequently used christian name, however the fact that the birth dates are identical and the name Vytopil is infrequent all combined do convince me that there is some reason for looking into it.

Hi, I was archiving some of my father's pictures and came across a two photos from the Vietnam War era that had a friend and fellow Marine of his in it, Cress Ondrasek.

I located that Cress Ondrasek had died in 1988 and is buried in Colorado. If there is any family members who wish to have a copy of this picture than please email me.

Rich DePalma

Re: Vitopils-Vytopils??

Thank you for your message. It is quite interesting - finally we have some clue about the origin of the Vitopil variant of the surname. In case you are not absolutely positive about your ancestors entering US at Galveston, I would advise you to check the Ellis island records - I even think there is a record mentioning Antonie Vytopil coming to NY some time around 1880 on a boat from Hamburg. This is the site: http://www.ellisislandrecords.org/
The information I can provide you with is that Vytopil is definately a czech surname, is a very rare one (listed as 1100th according to the frequency of surnames in today's Czech republic) and that there are numerous families in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Australia. The australian branch is particularly strong and appears to be a recent one. What I find interesting is the fact that the low frequency of the name may give us a chance to trace back the last common ancestor and we might find him a reasonable time ago. We'll see.
If you had any special information and/or questions I will be happy to hear again from you.

Diane, My name is Kathy(Sefcik)Nelson. My grandma is Stacie Ondrasek Sefcik, sister to Julie Ondrasek who was married to Peter. My grandma and "Aunt" Julie(that is what we called her even though she was my great aunt lived a field over from one another in Caldwell,Texas. So this being said, was John Ondrasek then my great-grandfather who came over from Ublo in 1880 or was there another brother? I talked with my dad(Arnold Sefcik) and he just isn't sure. My mom who is Emilie(Houdek) Sefcik said that she knows quite a few Brinkman's and that maybe you are one of them. She also said that there is a Lillian(Ondrasek)Delhiro that lives in Bryan. I don't know if this will be new info for you or not. I am currently living in Minnesota with my family and was going to dig into my "roots" and that is how I came across your site. Good luck in your endeavors.
Kathy
P.S. Just as an added note there are two Ondracek's listed in Grand Rapids, Mn. phone book. Though different spelling, I thought that interesting.

Vitopils-Vytopils??

Mr. Vitopil:
My name is Michal Vytopil and I come from Moravia. We are trying to trace back our family history and we have able to locate several Vytopil families all over the world. Since the surname is a rather rare one I am also searching for slightly differently spelled surnames. I guess they might all come from an identical source. If you happened to be interested in discussing the Vi(y)topil?? surname history I would be happy to hear from you.

looking for possible family named ondrasek

Hello, I am trying to help my husband locate possible members of his birthfamily. Problem being we are not sure which family carries the last name. Below are 2 possibilities.
Mother: born 1949, 5'2, 140 lbs, had dark brown hair, brown eyes, medium olive complexion. She had a 8th grade education. Her nationality is French. She married a man in the Navy in 1969 after the birth of her first child in Jan-Feb 1969.
She had 4 older brothers.
Brother: (67/68 now) mine worker in 1970
Brother: (63/64 now) paper mill worker in '70
Brother: (61/62 now) paper mill worker in '70
Brother: (57/58 now) railroad worker in 1970
HER MOTHER: was 5'6, had black hair, brown eyes, had a 10th grade education. Her nationality was French.
HER FATHER: was 5'4, had black hair, blue eyes, and was a retired mine worker. His nationality was French.

POSSIBILITY#2:

Father: born in 1949, was 5'6, 180 lbs, had dark brown hair, brown eyes, and had a 7th grade education. He was a RE-Enlisted Marine in 1969/70.
His mother: was 5'5, had red hair, blue eyes, and was a Bar Maid with asthma.
His father was 5'4, had brown hair and eyes, and was a mine worker.
No siblings that we are aware of.

My husband has Myositis and it is imperative that we find his family. The mother or father would have had ties to Watertown, NY or Upstate NY in May, 1970. My husband was named David Mark O. on 5/4/70 when he was born 5 weeks premature. Our daughter suffers from a congenital breathing disorder.

Thank you for your time.
Jennifer Oyer

An Antone Vytopil entered the US through Galveston, Texas 9 January 1912. He left Bremen 14 December 1911 on board the Ship Hannover with Josef 48, Antonie 48, Mary 11 and Frank was 14. Their point of origin was Austria and their destination was Bryan, Texas.

I know the Josef and Antonie do not match Buck's parents, but it could be a hint to check further with.

The information came from the Texas Seaport Museum in Galveston.

Also, coming through Galveston were several Elzners (maiden name for Buck's mother), Foyts and Foytiks (Irene Nossek married a Frank Foyt, her brother married Elizabeth Vitopil, daughter of Sydney).

Veronica Repal, wife of Sydney, came to the US on the Ship Halle through Galveston. She left Bermen 23 May 1900 and arrived in Galveston 11 June 1900, her origin was Moravia, destination Bryan, Texas. She is listed as a servant, age 17. A Frant (maybe Frank?) arrived in Galvest on the Ship Helgoland from Bremen. His date of arrival 30 November 1901, no date of departure, origin Bohemia and destination Bryan, Texas. His occupation is mason. He was 45.

This is my former son-in-law's line, but I'm trying to get my grandchildren's family tree to stop leaning so far on my side and give them some sense of where the other half of their family came from.

Mary Anderson

Another name in the family is Zajacz. These names, as I am told, are Slovak. Any idea how all these names tie together?

greatgrandmother married to an Ondrasek or Ondrazeke, Westmoreland County PA

I am looking for information on my great grandmother. Her name was Elizabeth Ondrasek or Ondrazeke. She was from the Latrobe area of Westmoreland County, PA. She was married to William Campbell who was killed in a railroading accident. She had two sons, William and Ross Campbell. William was my grandfather. She placed them and possibly several siblings in an orphanage in Westmoreland County until she remarried Mr. Ondrezeke. Possible spelling Ondrizeke or Ondrasek. This would have been in the late 1800's. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Cochanour or Elizabeth Coughenour Campbell. I'd appreciate any help that anyone can give me.
