I am looking for information on my Dad's cousin, Daniel O'Mahony born in Cork 1912 (approx). Died 1950 in a motor accident near Dublin. Dan was world wrestling champion in 1935/6. Any information of him or his parents, siblings, or decendants would be gratefully appreciated.
Many thanks Carol.

I don't know if this is any use to you but my grandad Patrick O'mahony was born in Cork in 1913 and I think that there was a Daniel In his family. My grandad had a few brothers and one sister, their mum died when the youngest child(the sister) was quite young.
My grandad came to England sometime in the 30's to work for Fords in Dagenham.

Dear Michelle I am unsure at present as to whether there is a family connection but there maybe, Daniel was my Dad's, Jerry's, cousin. Daniel was world wrestling champion during the 1930 and both my Dad and Daniel grew up in or around Skibbereen/Ballydehob. I have seen the details of your ancestry on various sites will ask my older relatives if we had family who moved from Cork to Dagenham. Please e.mail me directly at, rosepetal5@hotmail.co.uk, when you reply. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Liam
Thank you for your correspondence, regarding Danno. I was already aware of a book, I believe a cousin of mine has a copy. Is your relationship to Danno through your grandmother or grandfather. I do have a bio researched by a man named Steve Yohe detailing quite a lot of Danno's life, which I received after posting my original message on this site. If you would like I can send you a copy via an e.mail, so feel free to send me an e.mail address and I could forward them to you. Thank you for contacting me.
Regards
Carol O'Mahony

Hi Carol

Is this the same Dan O Mahony who was famously the inventor of the wrestling move known as the "Irish Whip"?

My late father who was a boxing enthusiast spoke frequently of him. He was also the reason why my late brother was called Donal rather than Daniel after his maternal grandfather....Dad was afraid he would be expected to wrestle!

Just stumbled upon your message from 2006. I was going through old photos and came across several of my dad's old friend in California, wrestler Dan (Danno) O'Mahony. Dated June 30th, 1941. My dad used to hang out with Dan at a bar, I think it was Dan's, in California. My dad was in the navy from 1942-44, stationed in Santa Monica, I believe. I would love to show you the photos of Dan striking a wrestling pose. My dad has passed away, which prompted this search.
