In May 2008, I gathered O'Mahoney surname information from the National Library in Dublin and from four cemeteries in and around the town of Skibbereen in southwest County Cork. All the O'Mahoney information I obtained pertains only to this southwest area of Ireland.

The first thing you have to do if you want to track your ancestors in Ireland is to find out where they were from. Not just the county, but the townland. So asking other relatives, and checking documents in the US - like death certs, naturalization papers, immigration info, might help you pinpoint where your ancestors lived in Ireland

hello, seeing your offer hope you can help my grandfather was john o mahoney born in maesteg wales 1882 i am lead to believe his father thomas 0 mahoney born 1831 was born in the skibreen area and married an ann unaware of surname and where she originates fron in ireland. thanks debbie ive only just begun my tree.
