Hi,
If your Grandfather Henry James Ollenbittle was born in 1883 (10th Jul 1883), he is likely to be the son of Henry James Ollenbittle, a printer (who I have called HJO III on this message board) and his mistress Annie Gillard. HJO III was still married to Eleanor Bennett (with who he was to have a further 6 children).
While HJO III (who was born in East London) lived in Ipswich as a child and young man - even marrying Eleanor Bennett there, before moving back to London, your Grandfather was not born in Ipswich but Cerkenwell (see attached birth certificate).
Your Grandfather HJO was the first child of HJO III & Annie Gillard, they subsequently had 3 more; William Gillard Ollenbittle b. 1885, Faubert b.1887, Alfred b. 1889 - believed died in infancy & Rose V. b. 1890.
HJO III was the son of another HJO II, who was a foundary worker originally born in St. Georges in the East, London (Tower Hamlets) who married Hannah Markham and then moved to Ipswich.
HJO III's Grandfather, HJO II's father was a Germany immigrant from Hanover who came to work in the London sugar industry in about 1820. I believe I may have found his birth place in Sandstedter, Moor,Ksp. Standstedt, Hanover, Germany, the son of Gerd Oldenbüttel and Catharina Adelheit Korte. His oringinal Germany name being Hinrich Oldenbüttel, and it being anglizised to Ollenbittle or Ollenbuttle. I would caution that the German ancesters are only circumstantial at present, I have no direct evidence (yet) for the link.
I have attached HJO III's birth cert and the 1891 census that show your Grandfather with his parents.
Hope this is some help.
