I have a query with a branch of my family. My 2X Great Grandfather is registered at birth in Carlisle, Cumberland in 1855 as George Oliver. In 1861 census he is known by that name. By 1871, he is known as George Oliphant, living with a step-sister, and is also known as George Oliphant on his marriage certificate.

Just puzzled with name change & no idea where his parents went
