I am looking for any information on Jorgen Olafson who married Amelia Eriksen. They married in Norway and came to the states by ship. I have no dates except their son Arnold osian Olafson was born on the crossing in 1882. They changed the spelling of their last name, since they settled in a Swedish colony, from Olafsen to Olafson. They settled in MN. any info on this Jorgen and Amelia would be of great help. Have hit a brick wall due to the lack of information.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello! I'm just beginning my search so I don't know if my info may help or not. My great-grandfather was Jens Hans Olafson, b.3-15-1870, Strausners, Sunfjord, Norway; d. 8-7-1953 Hopkins, MN. Jens' parents were Jens Olaf Hanson, born and died in Norway abt 1885 (age 30??) and Johanna Christianson, b. 1842, Norway and died in Norway sometime after 1908. Jens immagrated to the US at age 15 as a stowawy on a cattle ship. Are we shirt-tail relations somewhere down the line? Jens had seven (7) children, one (1) was my grandfather Leonard Earl Olafson. He died in August, 1987.

Deanne,
The olafson I am looking for parents made the crossing and he was born on the way over. He was born in 1870. I dont think we are looking for the same Olafson. I have reached a brick wall with my search and hope to find a lead soon.

Hello JP:
My Grandfather was Mervin Jerome Olafson and his wife, my Grandmother, is Adella Erickson Olafson. As far as I know, they lived in Minnesota all their lives (all my life anyway). I don't specific birthdates or any other names at this time, but will get back to you. I just read your message and the two names together is such a coincidence, so I'm looking into it further. Will post again when I have more for you.

Hi, I believe the Jorgen olafson/amalie eriksen you are looking for is my paternal grandfather's brother. All the information you have given matches what I have except I have another eight children listed. Jorgen Olafson was borm in Veo in 1849 and died in 1899. He was one of nine children born to Jorgen Olafsen born April 1, 1818 - died May 5 1893 and Aase Johnsdatter Hoksvoll, born December 30 1820 - died May 14, 1891. I have more information if you want it.

I may have information - need to find burial records when I have a chance. My husband's grandfather was Jorgen Olafson,
brothers, Arnold, Harold, Harry, John, Bastian, sister Maymme - there may have been more. I will do some research.
