I would be interested to know if Bernard Sheridan of Wellesley was related to James Sheridan (father James abt 1820, son James abt 1854) of Newton Upper Falls. At one point a census lists (Mass State Census 1865)Bernard and Phillip as boarding with the Sheridans of Newton Upper Falls. I saw that you had made a note correction the spelling of Sherridan to Sheridan.

Can you send me a link to the record you are talking about?
I can't seem to find the 1865 census.
My Bernard Sheridan was born in 1826 which would make him similar in age to the father James b 1820.

My mistake, The census is 1855 Massachusetts State Census.

I had thought that Phillip, Bernard were boarding with their brother James, but somehow the names of their fathers didn't match up. Since Wellesley and Newton are boading towns it seemed likely that Bernard might have easily moved to Wellesley.

Very long shot, but have you any information on the origin of the name "Newton" for the town. It is often an abbreviation for New Town and, as such, common. My Sheridans, come from the very small town land of Newtown Carradoan which is just north of the village of Rathmullan on the western shore of Lough Swilly in County Donegal which is, of course, an adjoining county to Derry. The farm in question took its name from the townland but abbreviated to Newton.

Do you have any information concerning the Sheridan lady you mention - particularly where in Ireland she came from?

No idea where Newton got its name. There long before my ancestors were there. I live in The Omaha, Nebraska area.
My Mary Abraham Sheridan, born 1830, was from Doon, County Limerick. Her husband, Bernard Sheridan, was from County Cavan. His father was Thomas Sheridan and his mother's maiden name was Dolan.
