Well Iam an Ojeda also. My family comes from Andalucia, My Abuelita was from: Granada and My Abuelito from: Sevilla. They are died a few years back. They were living in Vacaville, Ca. Iam so surprised to find out how many Ojeda's that we have out there. We are all supposed to be related in some way or another. I live in Carmichael, Ca.,Sacramento, County. We go way back, we have Garcia's, Castro's, Bera's Cullar's and i could go on and on. But at one time they were Ojeda's, but through marriage their names are changed. I would like to really check out the origin of the Ojeda name. I really think it came from Spain. If anyone knows let me know. thanks

Hi Roselie, Thank you for replying to my inquery. I sent you a message just a few minutes ago but not sure if it went through. In the message I told you pretty much what I told you in the first message that you picked up on the Board. The strange thing that was different was this: I have a Tita Rosie, her last name was Castro, so that made her Rosie Castro, her husband was killed in 1967 his name was Alonso Castro, they were from Vacaville. She remarried manual Castro, a cousin of Al, he died and now she is married to Art Heck. but All that I know about our side of the Ojeda's is that we all came from Spain. Like I said before my Grandmother Concha, was from Granada and my Grandfather was from Sevilla, we are Andalucians and proud of it. Iam sure we don't have anyone from Mexico as my grandparents came over on the same boat from Spain and landed in Hawaii, then from their they went to San Francisco and had a bar in Catalina Islands for awhile. My Grandmother came over with her father, as her mother died in childbirth giving birth to her, so she really didn't have a mother, but she was a great mother and grandmother. My Grandfather came from Sevilla with his Mother. They met on the boat and got to know each other and married real young. I have many relatives in Vacaville, Fresno, Winters we are all over and a huge family. My sister Joanne Ojeda Garrett, has 11 Children, 3 sets of twins. Of course they are all grown with their own families. She has the ll children, 36 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-granchildren. Now that is a reunion all by itself. LOL. Anyhow, it was great getting your email. I hope you will continue to corresponde with me. It was sure interesting to see how many Ojeda's there are out there. But like I said before, I think the name originated in Spain. I have heard that the name Ojeda exists in Japan also. So I guess if we keep looking we would be surprised what we find. It is interesting and fun. Nice talking to you. Hope to hear from you again. Regards, Ramona Ojeda, Carmichael, Ca 95608 ps I hope this message gets through to you this time.

Well, I for one am glad to see that others are as curious as I to investigate the origins of the Ojeda name. I'm of Puerto Rican descent, but I've managed to trace my family's line back to Spain as well. I found a passport in the microfiche library of the Church of Latter Day Saints issued to a Jose Ojeda, who with his two children, a daughter named Josefa and a son named Juan immigrated to Puerto Rico from the Canary Islands in 1843. As you may know, the Canary Islands are part of Spain. The boy, Juan, was listed as 12 years old at the time. This would place his birth at about 1831. Now, when tracing my maternal grandmother's line, I found that her great grandfather is listed as Juan Ojeda, born in Spain before 1840. Coincidence? I don't know for sure, but I'm in the process of corroborating the information. Yes, absolutely the Ojeda name originates in Spain. I've read from the area of Spain called Oviedo. I have also been told that after living in Puerto Rico for a time, some of my ancestors then migrated to Venezuela, with the result that I have some relatives there as well. If you read the history of the Spanish Conquistador Alonso de Ojeda, you can see he attempted to settle areas in the Dominican Republic and on the coasts of South America. He was cruel to the indians and later regretted it. He is said to have been buried at the entrance of the San Francisco Church in the Dominican Republic, which he requested so anyone entering the church would have to walk over him, in order to do "redeem" himself. Whether it is because of him I don't know for sure, but there are Ojeda's in Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, Guam, the Phillipines, Ecuador, Chile, and God only knows where else. I'm convinced the name has a common origin. As I research my family's history, I'm collecting any other information on Ojeda's I come across, so I would be happy to see your Ojeda family tree.

Thank you so much for the information on the origin of the Ojeda name. I had heard a few years ago that the name originated in Oviedo. (sp) I don't have a family tree made up yet. I have one from my moms side of the family. she is Irish, Scotch and Dutch. With my dad's Spanish blood I am quite a combination. My cousin Phyllis Matta, who lives in Vacaville has been trying to get information to start the Family Tree. Also my cousin Jimmy Castro's wife is trying to find out information also. So maybe we can all get together with our information and figure out our Family. No? I don't know what you read about my family? My grandparents came from the southern part of Spain. My grandmother from Granada and my grandfather from Sevilla. We have a lot of family in Spain. I want to thank you again for the information that you have provided me. Regards Ramona Ojeda

Hi, Here is my family tree so far , we are from Puerto Rico Your family was from San German and Maricao, I know that my grandfather went to visit family in San German and Maricao and Bayamon also. He told me that he was related also to the family of Apolonario Ojea Hernandez but I do not know how they were related.
Elviro Ojeda Hernandez was the son of Diego Ojea Olan and Juana Evangelista Hernandez Acevedo. They were from San German. Diego was the son of Jose Ramon Ojeda and Ramona Olan, also from San German. Elviro was probably born in Maricao where they lived for many years. I do not have all the children but Elviro had a sister named Modesta and two brothers named Rufino and Rosendo. Rufino's both certificate is in Maricao. Let me know if you fine something
