The beginnings of the Ojeda family in my geniology date to 1890's where one of four brothers settled in the area southeast of Austin known as Medina. That particular Ojeda was Antonio Ojeda my great grandfather. I'll post his brothers and I beleive two sisters names later if this is of any possible help. My particular interest is of bloodlines from the indigenous natives who in all probability surfaced as hispanics during those times. Being Spanish or Mexicano was more likely safer, during the 1800's. Any questions or possible information will be appreaciated. Thanks Chuck Ojeda

For Denise Ducote; To the best of my knowledge the OJEDA name for me goes back to the late 1890's in central Texas. In a small community called Mendoza, Texas. My paternal Grandparents Antonio Ojeda and Maria Rodriguez Ojeda settled to farm and ranch. They arrived there with I believe several of Antonio's brothers and 1 or 2 sisters ( I'm not to clear on their names ).They having traveled north from San Luis,San Luis Potosi, Mexico. At this point is where my search for deeper roots on the Ojeda name stalls. Are their any connections that you can place? Is any of this helpful in your search? chuck ojeda

I think we have a link!!!!!!!
Well I have spent hours and hours on this computer and have dicovered that my third cousin gave me mixed up information. She said that my Great grandmother, Estelle Albertine Ojeda Morris, who's parents were Arthur Ojeda and Mary Esmerelda Terogono, ....well anyway, she said that Estelle's siblings were Amelia, Corrine, Ben, Arthur, Alfred and Andrew, and that Arthur Ojeda, the Father, his Father's name was Benito Ojeda and his wife was Corinne Relimpo. Well while doing some computer research I dicovered this web site called http://pedigree.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/pedview and it gives you the actual tree like a pedigree chart and it said that Arthur and Benit were brothers and guess who there parents are????? You got it!!! Andre Ojeda and Maria De Los Dolores Rodriguez!!!! And if I recall correctly you mentioned in one of your notes that those two individuals were also in your family tree. Please write back to confirm this at tinyDD1961@cs.com as soon as you can.....Thanks!...cuz!

Okay. When I look up pedigree ancestry on the net I come up with a page for Arthur Ojeda, my great great Grandfather, and it has Andre Ojeda and Maria De Los Dolores Rodriguez Ojeda as his parents. Also according to this, Andre's parents were Antoine Ojeda and Maria Messa. My 3rd cousin on the Ojeda side had told me a long time ago that Arthur's father's name was Benito de Ojeda from Mexico. Oddly enough on the ancestry net page it has a "Benit" Ojeda listed as Arthur's brother, not his father. Lucky for me I have the clipping from the news paper on the day that Estelle Albertine Ojeda Morris, my great Grandmother, died and it says............ Morris...on wednesday january 25 1959 at 1:30 am. Stella Ojeda, wife of the late Philip Morris, mother of Mrs. Essie Ducote and Mrs. William Mumford. Sister of the late Mrs. Amelia Gerard, Mrs. Corrine Schneider,Ben ,Arthur ,Alfred and Andrew Ojeda. Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Age 69 years. A native of New Orleans Louisiana. I hope the info I found on my family is of some help to you. Also, there are some distinct characteristics of my Ojeda family. They are female persons with large buttocks and we are all pretty short in height. I myself am only 4'9" and my Father is only 5'5". They also like to talk alot and eat alot. Also there is a family recipe that was handed down from them called "Chinese Chew" which I later discovered from a Mexican friend is really called Mexican Christmas Cake. Do you have any similar family traits in your Ojeda tree? Please write back soon tinyDD1961@cs.com

Denise, Read your postings of possible family links. I need to research more into my immediate OJEDA family. They would mostly reside in the Texas areas of Dallas all the way south to the Rio Grande and perhaps (most probably) into Mexico. In viewing your recently posted information about family names I believe I see a certain trend in your family ancesters in that those members seem to be more to French or French/Carribean origins. Perhaps there is a link somewhere in there, lets dig around more. I know from other areas of searching that the OJEDA name goes back to the Chistopher Columbus voyages with the "de" in front of the Ojeda name, and that also another de Ojeda also commanded his own fleet of ships to plunder the new world. This particular de Ojeda did visit the Carribean Islands and also parts of northern South America as well as parts eastern Mexico up to and including south Texas coastline. ( pretty busy fellow, I wonder how much of the native gene pool he seeded ? Oh well, I'll keep looking for decidedly blood links to before and after the previously mentioned ANTONIO Y MARIA Rodriguez Ojeda family. It is very interesting to that there are others like yourself looking for those family connections keep me posted of any new developments and I'll let you know of any new information as I find it. Ojedas from Puerto Rico too
Hi there. I was very surprised by your description of the Ojeda women. All of us are big hipped and very short. I'm the tallest at 5'4". Huge appetites too. It's eerie. I've always thought that our ancestry was Spanish, but we also have some indian features. My grandfather's name was Felix Ojeda Ruiz. His brother's name was Alejandro. We are closely related to Filiberto Ojeda Rios, who allegedly masterminded the 7 million dollar robbery to Wells Fargo in Hartford. You might try using the mother's maiden name after the last name. Very common among Hispanics. Let me know if you think we're related. Good luck!!!

hey chuck, if you look further into the history of Alonso he may not have "seeded" much of the populace. he was known to have an intense hatred of the native populations, and was known to be at times a brutal man. however on the flip side the spaniards commented on his charm and gregariousness.and that most of what he did militarily was successful.although when he found and named venezuela and attempted to colonize the area, it proved to be his undoing.the insensed native population rose up against Alonso and helped in his downfall.eventually it was said Alonso who had led "the charmed life" ended up dying more or less bankrupt and alcoholic.also the Ojeda name originally came from the brieviesca province of spain near Burgos. it is a noble name and knighted within Spain. however at the time of Alonso it was a impoverished noble family.though not without its own prestige. the ojeda family was a member of one of the oldest orders of knight hood in Spain.however at this moment in time i am in school and cant recall that name. though with a little research this is an easy find. please for anyone who knows more about our family name, because we all came from the same family there was only one family of Ojedas in Spain, drop me a line. also i will be sending more info from my family in mexico. my family has been there they know of since settlement began in central areas of spain. other family members were there for the conquering of spain. i will keep you posted.oh also for denise, yes some of the Ojeda blood line was mixed with the native population. my own blood line is slightly mixed with that of mayan. my great grandmother Christina Hernandez Ojeda was a mayan indian, and my great grandfather Martin Ojeda was of spanish blood.my own grandfather who was the first of that immediate family Senon H. Ojeda was 6 foot even, white as can be,coal black hair and dark eyes.and i seem to be of similar build and complexions with the exceptin of coal hair, mine is a plain ol' brown.but my grandfather tells me while alive that our family in that part was primarily spanish blooded, with a small tint of mayan of which he was very proud.
